Butter the cookie sheet if you don't have wax paper.

Thanks Mel, My assitant is getting a sore arm now.

Yes Kim, I want to bring some tomorrow, but I have yet to see if this is gonna turn out.

OH and Barbara, I would appreciate it if you said a prayer that this doesn't turn into a sugar disaster of epic proportions. But preliminary taste tests are favorable.

I hope that it is holding it's shape pretty well. Your biggest potential issue is ending up with sugary goo instead of a nice wad of sugar and nuts.

Was it supposed to have a final texture of putty?

I'm not much on praying, but I will sacrifice a chipmonk for ya. ;-)

Just remember to wash your hands afterward, you know what germs they carry.

And just how do you guys eat this stuff without going into diabetic shock?

Monty

You savor it slowly and let it melt in your mouth ! ;-)

The consistency sounds a little off - but VERY good for a first try. Yours is holding together!

What you are looking for is for it to hold it's shape and be hard enough so that it does not stick to you, but will crumble a bit and melt in your mouth.

I can only eat once piece before my eyes start to roll up in my head from sugar OD. :crazy bannana

Next time, boil your sugar/syrup/water a smidge longer before you start mixing it in and mix mix mix mix mix.

Mel, what movie is your siggy line from? I have been trying to remember but can't quite nail it down.

Yeah, it does that! In fact as it cools it has gotten kinda hard. It just looks like globs of cement. But once you put it in your mouth, it melts. My hubby announced he is taking it to work tomorrow. Don't know Erin and Kim if it will still be here tomorrow night.

Really? That was not even on my list. Not sure I've even seen that. But I must have because I know the line. Are you sure?

Terri

Oh yeah I am sure! It is a story of one boy's eventful Christmas, probably in the late 40s, early 50s in Cleveland. The boy wants a BB gun but everybody, including Santa tells him he will shoot his eye out. But he manuevers to get it. In between he has lots of adventures including getting one of his friends to freeze his tongue to a light pole on a dare. It is a hilarious movie! go rent it.

Terri is right, the siggy and my avatar are from that movie.

You should watch it on Christmas day, they usually run a 24 hour marathon on one of the networks!

Terri - It sounds like you nailed it! WAY to go. Lots of people have a terrible time making it.

It is a little gross looking.

Will a little salt affect the ability to congeal??? I wondered about chocolate too???

Twice I got the gooey mess. I'm determined to make this stuff cause I LOVE it!!!!

We used to stop at Stuckeys on trips just to get some.

Why the salt obsession? If it ain't broke...

Terri

Salt???? I didn't see any salt in the recipe.
I can't imagin adding chocolate to this. And next time I get a different "helper" she managed to spill the glass of water everywhere, drop the spoon all the way into the boiling sugar and didn't stiff up the egg whites enough.

But I think it came out "right" - just not how I envisioned it. I thought it would look more like the egg white cookies (with stiff and grace peeks) and not so much like a glob of cement.

Mel, do you have any pictures of how your's look when you are done?

exactly - their is no salt in the recipe I use. I don't think chocolate would work either.

I think Kevin has some stashed somewhere at the house. I will see if I can locate it and take some pictures.

Okay, the jury is in! my 16 yr old son declared it good, but needs more or bigger nuts (I chopped them kinda fine). I know, silly northerner, letting a teenage boy near the divinity.

Cindy

What WERE you thinking. I like mine nut free. I guess you could call that female divinity. :D
