First of all...no pix...my camera has been out of commission since Mom dropped it... perhaps Santa will bring me a new one. :D
Last night, I was invited to La Fortuna for a Colombian Christmas party. The farm was decorated in lights and other festive decorations. As guests started to arrive, latin music filled the night air, and everyone enjoyed a drink of their choice while the cook prepared dinner. Adults and children alike walked thru the barn and ohhh and awed over the friendly faces hanging over the stalls.
I presented Orlando w/the art work Linda Y did for me of Mina. He loved it and promptly put it on the wall with all the other works of art of his horses. Then I gave him one of our APF Calendars. He seemed delighted by it. He got a kick out of Minouri's July photo, Carol U's October, and pnalley's December reindeer photo. He loved the beauty of the snow photos, Barb's November photo, and the Spring pix.
We got out Valentina for me to ride, and before I could even get her warmed up, there was a line of children wanting a turn. So I lifted each one up into the saddle and walked them around giving pointers and directions. Each child had at least two turns...some had three.
Before dinner, everyone gathered. Orlando and members of his family read the story of Christmas aloud for everyone to hear. It was in spanish, but still sounded very familiar as I heard a lot of "Maria y Jesus" (that's Heysues not Geezus ;-) ). It was a very beautiful moment and sure felt like Christmas.
The dinner was some of the BEST pork I've ever had...and that's saying something, b/c I've had some really good pork over the years.
I watched the cook preparing it and he had stabbed a bunch of holes in a large piece of pork. I was told they then boil it slightly to soften it up and release the fat. Then they fry the meat in it's own grease. OMG, was it GOOD. The skin was salty and crispy, and the middle was moist and tasty. It was worth the long wait for dinner.
After that, Adrianna (AJ here on the bb) and her hubby got things rolling and brought out Tobias. *We were dying to bring out the stallions all night Those two are horse ppl after my own heart. We'd ride every horse in the barn...and maybe the dog too. The three of us took turns riding Toby around bareback. That horse has still GOT IT! 8-) He is a fine ride, that is for sure. Then Panorama came out and Orlando took a spin around bareback, followed by his daughter.
It was a very fun evening and I enjoyed every moment. The party was still going strong when I left around midnight. Some of us have to work ya know. ;-)
