sire is dark bay, dam is palomino.

You can see the gold sheen on his coat... can't be dun if no dun parent...I don't see any dun type markings... the tip off for me (besides the parent's colors) was the tail being white at the dock...and the gold sheen to the coat... the mane & tail of a palomino does not *have* to be white.... smut gene sure takes care of that!

Lots of people...who are not privy to the parent colors would call that horse "liver chestnut" alazan..."Alazan" being the lighter color in mane & tail.
