This is the strangest precipitation that I have ever seen. It is not snow and it is not sleet. I guess it is freezing rain. It is little and round and when you touch it it evaporates. Very cool. No, can't be freezing rain as it is frozen when it falls. Must be sleet.

Sounds like "gropple"...we get gropple here a lot.... ;-)

Yep, gropple is a hail-like snow. Round snow 'balls' that isn't a flake (no arms or legs! LOL). It's not hard like hail either, more like styrofoam.
Fun!!!

Hey, I'm a happy camper! Today was the first morning in a week where I fed and their were two digits on the SAME side of the decimal point! :D
Of course, even the 10-day forecast doesn't have us getting up to freezing, but hey, every degree up is a start in the right direction!!

Gropple, hmm, never heard of it. And it just evaporates when you touch it? That was the strange thing. I guess the air must have been really dry.

It is a good thing it evaporated! You might have melted.
Kevin was very worried about me going out in it, he was afraid he would find a puddle and some striped stockings in the yard.

You mean because I am so sweet like sugar? Did you get the same stuff?

Nope, just rain that froze once it landed.

we in central NC got a light coating of snow early this morn which turned to sleet by daylight, which then turned to light freezing rain. I eventually turned horses out mid day for some run time...but about time for them to go back in the barn..they have stopped running now. We are due another wintery storm Sunday evening. NO pics! The tree trimming crews for the power company were out trimming the tress along my drive in, which I appreciate, so they must be thinking Sunday's storm may be worse.
Still on the cold side, not out of the mid-30's..compared to the 70's earlier in the week. Winter has arrived in NC.

My power has been out since Sunday afternoon! Ice breaking the branches and trees everywhere. Keeping warm with a kerosene heater and the fireplace, no phone either had to go to Hardees for the WiFi. And now they say we may get 5" of snow this weekend, just hope they get the power back on before then!
