He heard of a place called the hills of texas, lush area like mn near san antonio... Wonders about realestate and parks for horse back riding... He thinks he wants to come w/the RV and horses to the area to ck it out this summer.. Any suggestions on nice campgrounds w/horse pens?

Ok...the area he has heard of is the beautiful Texas Hill Country which is world reknown. People come from all over the world to see the beautiful wildflowers and bluebonnets in the springtime!
Actually the Hill Country is quite widespread reaching all the way out to Fredericksburg and a little beyond...it also goes west and north of the city of Austin where Lake Travis lies. The Hill Country is breathtakingly beautiful...rock formations and pine trees and vast vistas.
BUT as all reknowned areas are, it is vastly expensive to live there also. ;-)
And I surely wouldn't want to own horses there although many do...but you have to keep them shod all the time as it is solid rock. Lush and green it really isn't...not like MN anyway, I mean, it IS green...but that comes from scrub grasses and the trees...you don't find many lush green pastures.
Now if you want good AFFORDABLE horse country, I recommend the foothills to the Hill Country which is where we live. It is gently rolling hills and the soil is a sandy loam that is perfect for growing the bermuda coastal hay that our horses live on. You don't have to shoe them (unless you do take them riding in the Hill Country... ). Land prices aren't out of reach, taxes are low, and the people are warm and friendly. You're only 150 miles to the Gulf, where you have the sugar sand beaches and tourist attractions, and you have two major metropolitan cities within 30 to 40 minutes...San Antonio and Austin. In the city of San Antonio, housing is remarkably affordable...Austin gets a little more expensive. Austin of course now is being touted as the second Country Music Capital of the US next to Nashville...and it's quite a posh, contemporary city to rival Minneapolis for entertainment and things to do.
As far as the camping with horses question, I am going to pm you the email address of Renee Ilse, our new trainer, and she will most likely be able to help you with finding someone who does that...or she may have facilities herself...she does hold trail rides for the public.
You also might want to Google San Antonio, Austin, and the Texas Hill Country and see some good photos of what it looks like. They most likely will also have the addresses and phone numbers of the local Chamber of Commerce's that will have more information for you.
Any more questions, just hollar...all I can recommend is to come down and see the area for yourselves...and if you DO come down, I will be just devastated if you don't stop in and see us! :D
Oh, and P.S., I don't recommend coming in the summer because the heat does get intense and we are humid here. Spring and fall are the best times to come...and winter isn't too bad either with a median temp of 50 to 60 degrees...(except for this last week...grrr... ) ;-)

Ah yes, Texas in Sping is really beautiful. The wild flowers even bloom in the grassy medians of the road. 8-) And you can't beat the weather....just don't wait too long. They get serious humidity and heat just like Fla.
