I am posting this very distressing news about the York Family for Denise Boorman, who has been keeping in regular touch with Laura York as the week has progressed since the accident last Sunday. The accident involved a regular from this board, Lois York, and her 12 year old daughter, Meghan. She (Denise) wrote this earlier in the week and since then Meghan has had some spinal surgery and Lois is showing some limited recognition of her mother but definitely has received some signifigant brain damage. There will definitely be a long road to recovery for both.
At this time Denise is working to set up a bank account for donations to the family. I will post more details here as they develop... hopefully by Tuesday.

" It with great sadness that I have been asked to pass on this information to you all. Laura York has requested that you know about the following: Last Sunday evening Laura York's daughter, Lois, and her granddaughter, Meghan were in an horrific truck accident close to their home in the Winchester, Ontario, area. They are very badly hurt. Whatever gives you faith in life, please say a prayer or two, or whatever you might believe in, to wish them as speedy a safe recovery as you can. Both are on life support systems. They had just picked up a round bale of hay and were on the regular gravel road with no snow or ice, the truck, the police tell Laura, flipped over twice front ways and pinned Meghan underneath and Lois inside. Laura tells me there was no glass left in the truck.
Lois has a major head trauma, and a seriously damaged left arm. She was to have received skin grafts on the forearm today. Apparently, she has limited awareness at present and does not know how serious Meghan is. They are in two different leading edge hospitals in Canada's capital city, Ottawa, Ontario. Beyond that we know no more of Lois.
Meghan is very badly hurt. She is being kept totally still and her spine is still in a bent shape from the accident. She has damaged vertebrae #'s 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9. They were hoping to operate on her this afternoon.
For those of you who do not know Meghan, she is one of the most positive and vibrant young riders I've met in a long time. She is a very natural rider and has been getting lessons in one of the best saddle seat barns for this past few years, as well as showing her Paso Finos in the Northeast Region. I understand that most on this Forum know of and have spoken to Lois. I'm fortunate to have known Laura and her children, Lois and Jim, for close to 30 years.
I understand from Laura this morning, that Meghan's school is hoping to set up a fund for her. For those of you who are not Canadian, this is surely one time that we bless our public health care system. I am sure there will be a long, long road to recovery for these two wonderful people. If you need any more information, please feel free to email me directly at mapleleafpasos@aol.com and will keep you informed as best I can and to the best of my knowledge. Please do not phone Laura directly, we are trying to protect her from the obvious, and to help her cope with this terrible family trauma.
Take care
