All of the big wigs from my office have gone out on detail to help with the fires out there. My staff officer is going to be out there until the 23rd. He called us and said the it is a very sad situation. People are losing their homes left and right. He has been coordinating crews with dozers to try and plow breaks around people's homes. They are working 24 hours trying to get the places that are endangered some protection from the fire.

I wish I could go out and help. Firefighting will be the biggest part of my job that I will miss. All the guys on my crew are so great - and it feels wonderful to be able to help people instead of having to watch everything happen on the news.

I hope that our guys will be able to make a difference!

When your office mates return be sure to tell them that we appreciate their help a whole lot. More than they will ever know actually.
Don't expect them back anytime soon though. There is no rain in the forecast for the next 10 days and there are several high wind days forecast.

It really sucks that i sit here in minnesota with big bales sitting on my field from last fall and can't get them picked up by my hay man because we had SO much rain this year that they can't sell all the hay.
bales frozen to the ground and no one wants them. Ughh!
