I have a paso filly coming 4 this year that cannot be registered PFHA because her dam is not registered and cannot be with the PFHA, although is purebred, and the sire was (now deceased) reg. with PFHA and purebred. What I plan to do is register her as Kentucky Mountain and also Racking papers on her. I have just begun saddle training and she do gait – oh yes! The KMH require DNA be done on all horses except geldings. The Racking Horse Assoc. doesn’t require blood or DNA (BTW the horse MUST be over 14hh to apply for this registry). You need to have a “commissioner” in each breed watch your horse under saddle and gaiting. Luckily, I know a commissioner in each breed – however you can also videotape if no commissioner in your area. If I take Ursula to MD this year the Racking Commissioner and the KMH guys will meet me there to view the horse. KMH registry and DNA testing will run around $100. and so will the Racking papers, but re-sale on this filly will go up due to double registry – people LOVE paper. Personally, I LIKE to see commissioned papers on a gaiting horse breed because at least I KNOW the horse gaits.

Anyway, I thought I would pass this on to you folks who have grade pasos and want some paper to go with em.

Hmmm...can a 1/2 QH, 1/2 Paso Fino filly qualify for that if both parents are registered in their respective breeds???
I have the papers for both parents of my crossbred filly to prove it.

Carol:

If he/she gaits consistantly and is over 14hh then they qualify. There is also a North American Single Footing Registry, but I am not sure if the books are still open. Here's the links to the others. Just read the criteria, jump thru the hoops, give em money and you have papers. The nice thing is, if someone wants to show one of these commissioned horses in Racking shows or KMSHA shows then with the commission papers you are good to go. That is why many people are (double) registering their Icelandics AND paso finos to be able to show them in more venues. Me, I have no desire to ride around in circles, but many people like to and let's face it, there is a heck of a lot more Racking shows than Paso Fino. And if you have an exceptionally gaited/conformationally superior mare and want to breed it, it allows the offspring (provided you breed to a registered Rack or KMSH) to be fully registered. There IS something to be said for hybird vigor.

I would not waste the money unless she is breeding quality.
I would sell her to me for little money and call it a day!

Also a good thing to know and check in each state.

In Florida if a horse is abused, injured or killed and it is NOT registered: MISDEMEANER

In Florida if a horse is abused, injured, or killed and IS registered: FELONY

So it is a good thing they can be registered in other organizations.

how tall is she?

I wish I could talk my Friend into buying her, she does not need another horse. but she loves black, loves the QH lines that are in her. and
well I am sure she would not mind a little smooth gait.

but NO she will NOT try my paso finos ..

You know...I haven't put the stick to her yet...but I'm hoping she's gonna hit 14 H. She's surprising me that she's not turning out bigger...
and she's not black...she'll gray...she's got a bit more gray on her now than when those pics were taken.

Now this one is not for the faint of heart...she's gonna be a go-er...and very quick. Her cutting horse lines are very evident in her movements.

Whoops...I'm one of the sales police! I imagine this goes any further I'd better put a sales post on her!

this gaited horse breed registry has a paso fino as one of two foundation sires and many of the registered horses are also paso fino PFHA double registered.also the video route is a option.

Ms. T's size comes from her bulk...she is bulkier than my P.F. fillies the same age.
I've heard of the singlefooting association. I will want to wait to see what she's like under saddle before I attempt to register her anywhere. I want to see how she gaits with a rider on her back...
When she was younger, she gaited up a storm with her little Paso buddies...but since she's matured she seems to have taken on more of the QH temperament. She gets a little lazy and trots when bored...but startle her and she becomes a gaiting fool...she also has this head shake so reminiscent of Arabs I've seen.
I love this horse...it will be hard to sell her...if only I could keep them all...

The KMSHA rules requirements:

Fillies and colts may be registered with the KMSHA provided both parents are Registered/Certified KMSHA horses. A filly can be registered as an Appendix Mare if she has one parent who is registered KMSHA. All foals will be issued "temporary" papers. Foals are required to have DNA on record for proof of parentage and must be certified under saddle before "permanent" papers will be issued (usually after 2 years of age.

The KMSHA breed registry foundation books are closed for Mares and Stallions. A “grandfather clause” may be utilized for foundation registration if a Mare or Stallion has full registration from the Rocky Mountain Horse Association, Mountain Pleasure Horse Association or Kentucky Naturally Gaited Horse Association registries only.

The KMSHA Gelding books are still open for registration of geldings who meet the standards of the breed.

Appendix Mares for the KMSHA registry are open and consideration will be given to outside mares for registry who meet the standard of the breed as stated above. These mares are not restricted from showing but are required to have all male offspring gelded, while a female offspring derived from a registered/certified KMSHA Stallion may receive full registration. Lynn: Thanks for pointing that out! Last I knew the registry was still open, however it looks like they closed the books. Oh well...there is still the Racking Horse Assoc. and North American Single Footing Horse Assoc.
