Well, need to rebuild (or build a new one probably) the dutch door on the barn. I had the bottom open and the top closed, taking some manure out of the stalls. I was wheeling the cart back to my truck when I heard a CRASH......turned to look and Marci was on her way out the BOTTOM of the door!
Ripped the door apart pretty good, thankfully it was a bit loose so the wood broke/bent instead of ripping her apart. She lost a little bit of mane, but I couldn't tell from where. I managed to lock Lucy out of the stalls, opened the dutch door up all the way and Marci eventually ran back in where I was able to catch her and check for any injuries. She will probably have a few bruises, but hopefully she will not try to do that again!!!!
Dumb horse!!!!!
ps - Marci is starting to catch up with Beth's mare - need to get pictures next weekend if I can!!!

Yeah horses do stuff like that. A mare scratched her back pretty good trying to get out like that when they took her foal away. The foal could go under..She couldn't.

yeah, they do that..why I look to build my fences and stalls, doors out of wood when possible...they give in an accident.
I won't even try to list some of the dumb things my horses have done.
glad she is alright. Now Marci would say to you... "why'd you leave the bottom out so I could see a way out? you know I AM a horse."

OWWW!!
Ours are bad about going under the butt bar on the trailer and scraping off some skin in the process.

The dumb horse of course!!! :D :D :D She has banged her neck in the past......it was also one of those instances where the horses were behind the barn when I left them, munching hay.......next thing I know there they are!
Oh well, door needed to be fixed anyway, and Marci didn't look any worse for it. She even got to run around outside the pasture a bit and kick at the dog!!!

Yep, yep. I know that drill too! In fact, Mico got stuck under it. Had to remove the butt bar with a wrench to free the horse, the had to take the trailer in to lower the butt bar! ugh
You are right Ed, it is not necessarily the horses fault, they are just being a horse. But we can't always think of every possibility.

You are lucky she wasn't seriously injured, Lisa. Last year, Mojo got wedged under the divider in my slant load for just a moment, but he scooted low and got himself out. In the process, he injured his stifle and still has issues with it locking up every now and then. I am glad Marci is OK.

I HATE those dutch doors. I know that LOTS of stables have them, but I feel that if your horses are out most of the time (or all of the time like mine) then while they are in their stalls shut the door! Just because that's the way stalls were ALWAYS built in the past does not mean it is the best/safest way. I have seen many, many injuries from dutch door "accidents". WHen you replace your door do yourself (and your horses) a favor and put in a SOLID door.

I'm glad Marci is okay.
I don't have dutch doors, but I KNOW Rosie and a few of my others would do the same thing. If they can squeeze a little, they'll go for it.
Friends had a mustang that would crawl under the bottom rail of a post and rail fence. She did it all the time!!!
