I am doing a little experiment to see if one's membership number can be used to determine how long they have been members of the PFHA and I need your help. What I need is to know what your membership number is and what year you joined the PFHA. Those who do not want to post the info can PM me. Thanks for the help. Just a little fact finding mission.

#1076 -- yr. 1977

I have heard of some have a lower number, but joined later then me. So the PFOBA must have reassigned # numbers belonging to those who didn't rejoin, later on to new members. Don't know how many are still around now though.

I joined in 1987 and am 5654.

It may show WHEN you joined, but it will not say how long you've been a member. I didn't join for many years and when I did again, I kept my same old number.

I am 1086, and I joined quite a while before, then became a life member. I can't remember what year I first joined, as I have been in and out since the original APF and PFOBA. I don't think there were 1086 life members when I became one, but don't know for sure.

Hey Lisa, are you sure it was as early as '89? Could it have been later than that?

31290, joined March, 2004. It seems odd that ErinC's # is higher than mine, and she joined in 2000.

That's what I am finding. There really seems to be no rhyme or reason to how the numbers are given out.

Red Ryder

#26 is assigned to Robert O. Brannon of the Piedmont region, is that your name??? if not your number must be something other than 26

Here how the membership numbers work

An ----ABSOLUTE --------new member is assigned the next highest number ---always

If---a member drops their membership BUT at a later date rejoins, or does any type business with PFHA ----and the PFHA can ID them as being a past member by the same name and address they are given their old member number

example
if Red Ryder was a member 5 years ago and dropped out BUT rejoined this year ---IF--- address etc is the sames as what PFHA has on file then their old member ship number would be assigned to them again
In a case like this, the membership number might be a low number as it would reflect the ----first time Red Ryder was a member if the info doesnt match exactly then a new number is assigned.

Conclusion
Member ship numbers DO NOT necessarily represent the LAST TIME some one joined the association, therefore there is probably a 90% plus chance that the membership number may in fact represent an point in time when the person became a member.

Clear as mud?????

Hollis, you would think that is how it worked but it is not as there are members who originally joined in say 1991 whose membership numbers are less than others who joined in say 1988. This is what I was trying to find out is if the original numbers given were given consecutively. They were not so there is no way to tell by a members number when they originally joined the Association. This is why one must tell the office that they are eligible to receive a membership longevity pin.

Though I was not a member before 2004, I did subscribe to PFHW starting in 2001. It seems to me that my number might have been attached to the subscription.

Cindy, doesn't PFHA have records of who paid their membership each year? I can see where the old rolls might be on paper in drawers somewhere, but they should have records?

Cindy

I would think that they SHOULD. But I have no idea how the records are kept at the office. My experiment was only to see if membership numbers could be used to track such information and my results are that no, they cannot.

I know that at one time if you wanted a life time membership they gave you a new number, usually higher than the one you had.

When I switched to a Lifetime membership sometime in the 1990's from an Individual membership, my PFHA number stayed the same. The PFHA office put me down as a member since 1980 on my Lifetime Gold membership card. I tried to get it corrected by telling them that was not correct to no avail as they said that was where their records went to. later on I produced a copy of the page of the 1977 PFOBA Natl. Show program that showed me listed as an exhibitor by name in Equitation. I had a different last name then, but still had that same last name in 1980, so that (a name change) wasn't a factor. I DID finally get it straightened out on my gold membership card.....only thru my diliegence though.

I do think earlier numbers from members who didn't renew to new members in the earlier days of the association. later on that practice changed. I can get last known address info from the office even if the person hadn't been a member in quite some time..the membership number still is tagged to them.

My post was taking what the PFHA office told me that day.

Remember that if you were a member years ago and dropped out you would be given your old number if you could be identified, if you rejoined or did any type business with the PFHA ie registered a horse sold/bought a horse or even a t-shirt, this was to keep the accounting straight.

Remember I'm only repeating what I was told.

The people with the lower number, were they ever members before???

Am I correct there are only about 8,000 members at any given time???

My number is 7032 and I joined in 1999

Cindy

The people with the lower numbers have been continuous members since being issued the number. So, no, they were not members before.

Once you are assigned a number, THAT is your number forever. Now that may only be while you have horses registered in your name. But your horse is registered to both you at your PFHA number. If you let your membership lapse (like I did) they do not issue you a new number when you join again. I only joined againg because I bought horses that had to be transfered and it was cheaper.

Hollis I didnt say my number was 26..I said 26*** The asteriks stand in for the rest of my number.....unlike some people I dont feel I need to post my complete membership number on a public forum..to many crafty people out there..might make me seem nuts to you but ..then again if you knew me... ;-) it seems the first few numbers were what was necessary to figure out a pattern...Look what has happened with identity theft since we are now supposed to give out our SS number to anyone who asks..that was suppoed to be just for the tax man..no longer huh?

Hay I'll tell you all, the above is SO true. Luckly I was able to stop my ID theft before it got totally out of hand.

So.......my # has three numbers and it begins with 5. I joined in 1978 before I even owned my first Paso, a gelding that came from Lynn's farm, Viajero Hermoso aka "Traveller"
