If you were attending a clinic at a Paso farm, and there was going to be a speaker/demo regarding hoofcare, what would you be interested in learning about? What would spark your interest?
Even if you feel that you have a solid understanding of hoofcare, please try and think back to when you were just a pup, and remember what it was that you wish was brought to light sooner....
Thank you.

Let's see...
I'd like to know what a normal healthy hoof looks like.
How to tell a good trim from a bad trim
Examples of flares, narrow hoof walls, white line if you can
What hoof treatments work and when to use them
What feed supplements work and when they're needed
Might as well teach the biology of laminitis, stone bruises, and abcesses while you're at it.
And...things horse owners should be able to do between farrier visits...hasp off a crack, trim a torn frog, etc.

Okay, good....thanks Carol! For the healthy example vs a poor hoof ex.....would enlarged (8x10) pictures be appropriate, since I can't rely on assuming that a healthy example may be at the barn I'm attending? I may bring my horses up to use as examples, but then again..I may not.

If this is something you might do more than once - I would invest in getting the pictures blown up to poster size and laminated - more professional and it would save time and money in the long run. For a small fee (or included in clinic price, you could provide handouts of 8x10 versions of the pictures with annotations that show the point being made with each picture along with 'lecture notes'. Consider adding a copyright notice. A first effort could be a simple stapled booklet. If it takes off or you have additional requests, Staples/Office Depot, etc., have copy/binding services for fairly nominal fees.

I would probably like to see how to pull a shoe in an emergency...like on a trail ride. To let people know this IS something they CAN do with only a rasp and some pliers.
By the same token...how to tighten that shoe back up...with simple tools like a pair of pliers,or handy-man tool... if tightening were needed.
AND..everything Carol U said...

I think Sandy had a great idea. A little take away stapled together booklet is a great idea.

In the Paso World, we hear so much about how critical the angles are. That discussion would be helpful, along with all of the above.

I would really like to see cadaver (sp) hooves to see the anatamy in real 3-D. Posters are great, but if I could touch it and look at it I would retain that info much better.
