I am possibly selling my Paso gelding, Dancer. We don't have him advertised for sale, but a co-worker of my husband has a good friend who is looking for a trail horse and contacted us to ask whether we would sell Dancer. I have mixed feelings about selling him. I rescued him from a bad situation, so I feel rather protective of him. Also, right now he's Capri's babysitter, and Capri would really miss him. But we don't ride Dancer much, and I think he would be happier with more opportunities to trail ride.
Anyway, if I sell him, I want to have a contract where the buyer can try him out for a month and return him if things don't work out. Does anyone have a sample sales contract I could look at for appropriate wording? I've never done anything like this before. He's not registered, so I don't need to include anything about registration transfer -- I just want to make it clear that she would be responsible for his care after the sale, but she has the option of returning him within 30 (maybe even 60) days if things aren't working out.

Also you could put in the contract that if at ANYTIME she decides to sell him or give him away, she has to contact you , so you have the first choice in buying him back.

I agree with Pasoperson38 about that clause if he's one that's special to you. I sold my mustang years ago and had a contract with that clause and 10 years later his owners called me and said they were taking him to auction. I bought him back, sight unseen, and still have him today - 25 y.o. and as grouchy an old man as they come! But I was sooooo glad to get him back and not have him go through an auction.
