FINALLY...the snow is almost gone..... Dante was so happy to get out with Sultan today....EVEN IF he had new "sissy braids".....
Here he is at 33 months of age...14.2HH and almost ready to start under saddle! I just can't wait till April!

Are the braids to keep it mostly tangle free or free from dirt/mud clogging it up?

Terry Wallace

Right now the braids are to re-route the mane to be on the left side.

But, yes...they are also to stop the wind knots, as it is quite windy here in the winter. When I braid a mane I do so with plenty of leave-in conditioner.

Oh Yeah...and as if today wasn't nice enough.... I went to the feed store to get some grain, and MYLER bits were all on sale HALF PRICE!

Needless to say...I had to bring a couple home!

He's beautiful! He looks so much like my 25 y.o. mustang in his coloring, right down to the extra wide blaze.

He's pretty...but you know Sultan is no slouch. He's gorgeous!

Thanks Pam... He's "my baby"...he has been since the day he hit the ground.... he was always a sweet foal, and I just love his disposition and intelligence.... Both these stallions have great dispositions.... good looks, great bone and nice, nice confo.... just exactly what I strive to have around here....

Dante is a son of Manolito El Prim, who was a Brillante Negro son.
Sultan is 15HH+ just a hair over 15HH....

I like the bay, which one is he?

I also like the top mylar bit. The person that is training ChaChi said that she would most likely start him on a mylar when the time comes.

Aha ok. Poor TJ's mane is gets bad and it's been pretty windy here most days. I could not figure out how it got knotted so quick. Guess I get to teach Troy how to braid hehe.

Tell you what Jenn... the wind has been so bad here..it will knot up a long mane in only one day... you have to keep the knots out, or it will cause the hair to break at the top of the neck....

Paula...Sultan is the bay...and yep...I bought that top bit for a training bit.
Its a good "starter bit" for a good headset... I have another Myler, not pictured, much the same as the bottom bit, but with a shorter shank and I use it for training too. Another bit I use a lot is a good ole' Kimberwicke...I sure do like those.

CarolU... my first reining meeting is this Wednesday night... I'm thinking seriously about making good using horses of these two.... I don't think I will be showing PFHA in the future... I just don't have the interest anymore for ridin' 'round in circles... and high priced show (entry) fees. ;-)

Terry, the boys look great. Lucky you finding Myler bits on sale. They are great but boy they are expensive.

No doubt about it....they are expensive...today was a very good day...I spent $102.00 at the feed store and came home with two new bits and three bags of purina grain.....!

Nice nice boys!! Keep us posted on Dante's progress with training. He is a beauty. And Sultan is also gorgeous! How old is he? Is he trained already?

Terry Wallace

Sultan is six..or will be in June '07...yes, he is already trained, and heading for a reining career now....

Here is his coming two year old daughter (on the right) "Rita" (Favorita de Sarafina).
Sultan's registered name is JJ Sultan de Favorito, by Juan Jose de Favorito, by Favorito Que Tal. He was bred by Laura York...Lois' mother... in Canada. I went and got him in Alberta as a yearling after he shipped clear across from Ontario.

I really nead updates on how the Favorito get do, since I have a son.

Plus, you (the collective you) call Mylar bits expensive. So, what are starting prices, to what as a high price???

from what I have seen most of them that the majority of Paso folk use high 60.00 to high 70.00 about thr same or cheaper than a Colombian spoon bit depending on quality

Terry Wallace

Depends on the design of the bit... I haven't seen any $60.00 Mylers in my area...more like $70.00 and up...up past $120.00...

Some of the gag bits are very high priced as they also have leather nosebands attached.... they are not a bit I'd ever have a need for....

It ill depend on mouthpiece and shank length as to what you will pay for one. They have a website...I have never bought off the website as I'd rather wait for sales or get one at an auction or an Expo.

I will say this...I have yet to see a regular Paso spoon bit be anywhere near as nicely made or balanced as a Myler, I have four paso bits and they were not what you would call "cheap" either....the craftsmanship of the Myler cannot be beat and horses sure do well with them. Totally no-pinch... it is the functionality, the extra smooth moving parts and the way you can barely contact & move one side of the bit that sold me on them.

I agree with Terry totally. Things you might not see, but are there, the ports are made of sweet iron with rows of inlaid copper. The horses LOVE them.

They are wonderful. It's a little harder to find 4-3/4 size, but you can. Larger Pasos will wear the 5" just fine.

Our small paso finos do fine with the 5 inch with bit guards. I don't know about Brilliant since has a real teacup muzzle. We'll see.

He's also approaching 3 so we'll be doing some minimal saddle type work with him. Need to get him checked out to be sure the fracture won't cause any problems. He is totally sounds and runs around like maniac and rears and plays and doesn't favor either side but you never know what's really going on .

The funny thing though - the one you have in the top picture - we have that one also and all of our guys hate it. They love all the rest of our Mylers but that one. I can't figure it out. I've tried different tightness on the curb chain and adjusted the headstall and they still hate it. Strange HUH!!

All my bits are 5", with bit guards, I had my equine dentist measure their mouths...she said 5" bits...I sold the 4 1/2, and 4 3/4 " bits I had....and sure like the 5" better...
Terry I LOVE your horses!!!! :D :D You need to post more pics of them more often!!! :D

Thanks Joy... I post more in the spring & summer when the coats are not soooooo wolly! Also..Dante will be a much darker palomino then....
I just don't like posting "winter" coat horses...... ;-)

I thought Sultan had the Favorito look. Something about him reminds me of CarolU's mare & my Favio.

Of course Paula...it's amazing how that unique horse passes on his beauty. And of course, those who love THAT quality recognize it when they see it again. Sultan is a pretty awesome boy. And your Favio is another. I don't download many horse pictures off the BB, but for some reason I have both their pictures! LOL
