Our Siberian Husky, Ch. Wintersweet Bet on the Blues (GrayBoy), has been invited to compete in the Eukanuba All-Breed Invitational Dog Show in Tampa, FL. on January14-15. The show will air on Discovery Channel & Animal Planet live from 8-11. More info can be found here...
http://www.akc.org/invitational/2006/jan/index.cfm

The chances of seeing GrayBoy on tv are not great. Most of dogs in this show are the type dogs who show up to Westminster, and GrayBoy is a Bred-By-Exhibitor (BBE) Dog. GrayBoy has been shown exclusively by his breeders (and two co-owners) and not handled by a professional. There is a competition for Best Bred-by-Exhibitor in Show too. He will be competing on both levels. If he were to take Best of Breed, you would see him on tv in the Working group.

You can see GrayBoy on his webpage http://www.bestinshowdogs.com/synama/
I noticed that it is not completely up-to-date, so I will brag some more and tell you that he has 5 Best of Breed wins, and 4 of those were from before he was a champion in competitions in which he beat champions.

I hope you will excuse my shameful bragging. I am not the breeder and cannot take any credit other than for providing an envrironment to enhance his great disposition for the first 4 years of his life. Ok, I did help resuscitate him when he was born!

One more thing: you can see my daughter, Nisharox, on his webpage standing with him when he finished (I wasn't there). Notice she is wearing her Labrador shirt! We are Lab nuts in this family, but we love our Siberian too.

Deb, I wish I were going so I could meet some Paso folks! I am embarrassed to admit it, but I have never been present when GrayBoy has won a Best of Breed. I am a little afraid that if I were there, I would distract him, since I am the cheese dispenser. That probably wouldn't be a problem anymore, since he knows what to do in the show ring, but I am a little superstitious. Also, it was too hard for me to get away with the barn building going on. He is going with his two co-owners and breeders. As soon as we hear from them how he did in Breed and if he makes it to group, I will let everyone know if he will be on tv.

It is starting to get to me about not going...

All I can think of when I see dog shows on TV is the movie "Best in Show". That was hilarious!

Blameitonbrio

That is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. And the funny thing is that if you hang around a dog show long enough, you will see everyone of those characters there, BUT I am not one of them!

There was a reality show about the dog show world too, can't think of the name. Boy, did the mother with the son that showed remind me of my mother when we showed our Cockers & Danes back in the 70's.

I remember one show where I was handling a Dane pup (I think I was like 8 or something) and I fell down, landed on the dog, ripped my tights and showed my butt to the judge and everyone else near the ring. I was mortified, and all my mom could say was, "It's a good thing you didn't break the puppy's foot. Be more careful next time."

Dog shows are a riot if you go with a slightly warped sense of humor! Of course, so are horse shows!!! I think a movie on horse show moms would be hysterical. Imagine all the dynamics and emotions there...

Congratulations!! Siberians are such beautiful dogs! Maybe you can go incognito!! It would be kinda fun - like a spy!!

Gray Boy is purtiful!! Congrats and good luck.

Yeah, I think a docu-film on horse shows would be pretty darn funny too!

I was told once [now this is a JOKE, so NO ONE get offended - it's not about YOU!!! (well, maybe....if the shoe fits! LOL)]

Definition of a Horse Show:

A bunch of horses showing their @sses
to a bunch of @sses showing their horses.

I always try to remember that when I start taking it all too seriously! ;-)

I haven't heard anything yet. I will post as soon as I hear something. Of course I would love for him to win, but I am really hoping for a Judges Award of Merit which would prove he was worthy competition. OK, back to biting my nails! ;-)

Rats! The result were just posted, and GrayBoy didn't win anything. I am going to go pout in private for a few minutes and then go back to being happy he was invited!

Well crap, but you should certainly feel honored! The best in the world are there. I was very proud to see all the BOE dogs in the Groups last night. Right now I am watching The Purina Incredible Dog Challenge, and I can't wait to see BIS tonight! Give Grayboy an extra pat when you see him and tell him we were rooting for him! ;-)

Thanks! It does feel like an honor to have been invited. I watched last night too, and I was impressed that there were quite a few Bred by Exhibitor dogs.

I will give GrayBoy an extra pat and a can of sardines (his favorite) when he gets home.

Well if dog shows are like horse shows... I have an expression:

"Its a horse show! Anything can happen. And sooner or later it does!"

 ....if that makes any sense to you who show whether dogs, cats or horses! Its meant to be said with a sense of humor. You can't be too serious all the time at a horse show whether, exhibitor or judge. You got to enjoy the ride too. 8-)

Congrats to Grayboy for going to meet the competition head on whether win, lose or draw! If he didn't go, you would have always wondered, what if?! Great experience I'm sure no matter the outcome. There could always be that dream that could have been reality ..but you got to GO FOR IT! and there is always another time........

Atta boy Grayboy!

Oh, too bad he didn't win, but at least he got to eat his sardines. A sardine eating dog, now that's funny!
