No Paso Finos yet - but someday, I am sure to get one (or more) :D .

My background is mostly Arabians - my avatar is from awhile ago on my first Arab at my first competitive trail ride. I've ridden a few gaited horses and a lot of Arabians since then, mainly conditioning for trail work. That was when I lived in Maryland, and later Southern California. Oddly enough, I have been able to encourage several of the Arabs I rode to single-foot, so I'm hopeful that I will be able to ride a horse who is supposed to gait LOL I decided a few years ago that I wanted "go gaited" full time. Pasos seem like the best of both worlds - smoothness with brio!

I now live in SW Nebraska, apparently a hub of Quarter horses! When I do get my Paso, I want to ride trails without poking along, and be able to help my neighbors gather cattle, maybe attend a few local open shows. Mostly, I want to have fun with my horse.

I expect to mostly just lurk 'n' learn, and ask an occasional question.

My first love was Arabians, and Pasos certainly have what it takes to steal your heart from them. ;-)
Have you gotten to ride a Paso yet? :?:

Thanks for the quick welcome!!

Nope, haven't done any test rides yet, but have watched as many videos and read as much as I can. I was watching the Paso Fino show on RFDTV, I'm not so in love with the fino-fino, but I like the temperment I saw in the Jr. classes and some of the trail ride video. And I understand there are gaits that cover more ground and would be suitable for what I am looking for.

One of the gaited horses I rode was a Peruvian x QH, I know, they are not that much like Paso Finos but once she got in shape and I was able to get her off of her front end, it was fabulous. I am thinking a PF will be even closer to heaven! But I realize not all gait the same, so I plan to get some practical experience before I purchase - maybe arrange a vacation where I can take several lessons on a variety of horses or something like that.

Thanks again!

Let me know when you plan to visit Fla....I'm sure we can hook you up on lots of test rides. 8-)

I wonder who the breeders are in your area?

Welcome!!!!

I'm with Lori, my first love was also arabians....I used to work at a barn on the weekends where the owners bred arabians. I was allowed to ride one whenever I wanted....was sure I would have one when I got on my own. Pasos came into the picture when I was horse shopping and the rest is history :D

welcome.
Me too, many Arabs where in my life.

but Now just the paso! and I will NEVER change.
I love them, you get the 'hot blood' like an Arab but they are so much more sensable, and LOVE their human!

Welcome, I wish you were closer to me. I would tke you out for a few rides.

Welcome!
As many on this board will tell you, Paso Finos are a wonderful breed of horse. I’m glad that you are interested in them, and I hope you soon can enjoy the pleasures of owning a Paso of your very own.
I have learned a lot on this forum, and I’m sure you will too. :D

Oh, by the way... Arabians are also a lovely breed. We own a half-Arabian mare and we love her to death. She is a great horse, and the only non-Paso we keep. ;-)

wow I feel warm and welcomed by all of you!

I'm so impressed about the lack of breed bashing, not only in this thread but all through the site as well

Lori, thanks so much for your offer - I will be sure to get in touch with you when we start making plans for a Florida vacation/Paso-scouting trip! Not sure just when that will be right now.

I'm looking forward to photos and discussions to be found in the other parts of this site, and getting to know you folks a little better.

Welcome....my first love affair with horses was at an all Arab barn, so I have quite the old soft spot for them....in fact, I own a Morgan (close..has Arab blood) because I enjoyed their spirited fire so much when I was younger.
You seem to know alot, so I'm sure you will pick out a fabulous Paso Fino when the time comes. ;-)

We've had some power fluctuations due to ice falling off the power lines so I've gotten a little behind.

Here's my current Arab -

The photo is a few years old, back when we were in Los Angeles and he was only 16. He'll be 21 this spring and is pretty healthy, but he bowed both front legs over a year ago. I don't know if he will be sound to ride, but he still has the spark and shows off in the pasture :D

I don't have a lot of photos online, but they are stashed here and there. I just started organizing them, so I'll share as I find them.

What a beautiful boy!

This is my Arab mare who was also my 13th bday present.
She will be 24 this year, however this pic was taken when she was about 21, she still looks stunning. ;-)

Trailpal, your horse is beautiful... or should I say handsome, beings he is a “guy.” ;-) That’s a cute picture of him.

And Lori, your Arab is lovely as well. I love that photo of you and her. :D

So where in Nebraska??? I was born and raised in Nebraska...still got cousins there.
You know, I've got a pretty nice dun trail gelding for sale...don't you think it time you got that Paso??? ;-)

And as far as breed bashing...well, most of us CAN'T breed bash cause we got a few of the other breeds ourselves...
In my case, it's three minis, and a good ole American Quarter Horse! :D

Hi Carol!

I'm in the SW corner, closest to Kansas and Colorado. I know a few Nelsons from McCook and the area, are you related to them?

I'd love to see your gelding but I'm just not ready for another horse at the moment. Sigh, I keep torturing myself looking at ads, even though I'm not ready for "mine" yet.

Thanks!
