I've found someone who will take a trade and paint a memorial of my Old Guy, Cochise. I'm trading 9 broken Breyers and a Chris Nandell book about customizing model horses. I've seen this girl's work and it looks very good so I'm sure I'll be pleased.
This is Cochise, about age 26. I'm a few years older than he...but this photo was taken about 10 years ago. He passed away in 2000 at age 29...and still looked great! I'll also post pics when I receive the completed memorial.
I'm very excited!

That is great! He is a pretty complicated paintjob...you are lucky you found someone that will do it for a trade! Can't wait to see the finished product.

Yes, I inquired with Linda but at the time she had too many other projects going on and didn't want to take any new ones. This also works out well with my limited funds...someone gets a great book to help them better themselves and I get my memorial.
I have a San Domingo model already prepped (sanded and gelded). The SD, is of course much better looking than Cochise ever was...he had very poor conformation...but he had the biggest and bestest "heart" of any horse I've ever met. He will always be special to me.

But of course!

I'll be gathering photos this week and sending everything out to her as soon as I get everything compiled. She wants to keep the photos so I'll be getting copies made. I don't know how long it will take for completion...but I'll post it here first!

I like Cochise! I love his big ole' feet. I used to have an appy. He was my first horse- and was quite a character. He is living out his days making a little girl very very happy. He is her babysitter.

Here is a album page I made for him years ago. Funny, I had forgotten about it.

This is the San Domingo...of course Heidi's will be 'cleaner' than this one as far as paint goes. I think this was a pretty good choice from the Breyer horses. Hope this works...I 'borrowed' it off eBay.

Speaking of Breyer horses. I have some from the 70's I want to sell on ebay. How do you know what the model number is on them? I have not clue on how to list them.

This is a close up of the prepped San Domingo Breyer model's head.

The prepper sanded all molded seams and logos, gelded the model, added sculpy to his hind hooves so he's stand straight and she needed to change the L hind hoof from standing on tip to standing flat, she also had to straighten his L front leg as the original model's leg was bent a bit, she added more mane to the left side to mimic Cochise's mane, gave him a slight Roman nose and chiseled his ears.

Of course, this model looks "rough" due to the prepping process, but when the new paint is applied he'll look very nice. I've always loved the San Domingo model. My next favorite mold to choose for Cochise would have been Indian Pony, but Cochise carried his head higher than the IP model and looked closer to SD. I also love the alert and inquisitive look on the SD mold.

If you have a photo and description that is usually all you need. If you know what the model was called, all the better! Model #'s are necessary.
How many do you have? I may can help you, or refer you to someone who can.

PM me a list and I'll look up their name/numbers. I know their names, but I'll have to check their numbers. I have nearly all of the yearly catalogs and I have two books:
Breyer Horses, Riders & Animals Molds & Models, published 1997
Breyer Animal Collector's Guide, published 1998

First book is chock full of information and the second book gives collector prices.

I've been collecting since 1974. I have nearly 270 models which will be displayed on a shelf that will circle my upper tack room walls.
BTW, I am looking for Black Foundation Stallion...(hint, hint...got that one?)

Thanks Heidi. All the horses have 4 feet on the ground. The Arabian stallion has pink in side his ears, while the mare & foal do not. I will have to get pics and send them to someone who knows what they are talking about. Linda? Heidi? Do you mind if I send you some pics?

Sounds like the Proud Arabian set.
Bet the Morgan is the old one...the parked out Morgan. Does he have a bald face or a star?
You can send them to me, but I am not good at the values. A good place to check is eBay now that you know what they are called. Or you can go to http://www.modelhorsesalespages.com/sales/gallery.asp and do a search there.

Love those Breyers! Been collecting them since I was a kid... most are stored away in boxes now. My favorite is a semi-rearing stallion, basically black, but with a white mane & tail..looks "shiney"....he's my fave!

When I became interested in farriery as a child, I used to shoe my Breyer horses.... I would cut pieces out of the hay bale wire, shape them to the hoof, pound them flat on the concrete sidewalk with a hammer, and then glue them to the freshly filed, (with my mother's emory boards..shhhh!) flat hooves!!
I braided multi-colored halters & leads from my gramma's embroidery floss... yep..I had it BAD !!!

There is another one he could be:
Mustang, #87, introduced in 1961
Glossy Charcoal, white mane/tail/stockings, bald face. $110.60 value.

The Fighting Stallion is rearing, supported by hind legs and tail.
Mustang is sort of half rearing, supported either by hind legs/tail or hind legs/L front.

Both of these models looked good set up in a "mock" fight, when playing. :D

I have about 270. In my bedroom at my mother's house (11x14) my dad built a shelf all around the top of the room. Displayed 220 with ease. Kenny will be building a double shelf around the top of my tackroom and I'll display them there. The TR will be insulated and sheetrocked. Have been looking at horse-themed wallpaper borders, too.
