We are under third level. No one can be on the roads except emergency vehicles. All the schools are closed. WInd was blowing at 40 mph. But it sure is pretty. A winter wonderland. 5 foot drifts. ANd would n't you know. My husband is a excavator and we have lots of snow removing equipment but all equipment is out on jobs. LOL I had to feed last night because hubby has the flu. The hardest part was trying to get to the barn.

We're COLD and flurrying. It rained all day yesterday, so there are some patches of black ice.

High today and tomorrow is 32 - normal high is 50....weird weather pattern!

We are getting snow, lots of it, started this morning. Schools are all canceled. Hubby went to work, 45 min drive to find out it was canceled too, so he just got back home. We are supposed to get 14 inches and wind. Can't wait to go to FL! We are going for a week, leaving on Saturday! Then I hope when we return temps here a little warmer! :D

You guys in New England hang on to your britches - I think you have a whopper coming! Down here (an hour west of Washington/Baltimore) we had 4-5 inches of sleet over night (after several inches of snow yesterday)and like Abejita said - it is heavy stuff! They say it is winding up into a blizzard as it heads north. Now we are expecting the 50 mhp gusting winds and single digit wind chills for the next two days - that should mean they cancel schools yet again!!

Stay warm and stay safe!!!

Carol...you make me laugh! That is what my day will be, mid 40's cloudy, slight wind, with a 20% chance of snow...and I'm DELIGHTED!! It didn't even get below freezing again last night! :D

Yeah, I watched the weather station yesterday...you Yankees are in for a "Perfect Storm"....so glad I'm not there!!!

I'll be thinking about you!

Helpful Hint...if you don't have a tractor with a blade, make cookies for your neighbor who does. Works like a charm!

I'm happy to have a snow day. I just hope the power doesn't go out. I've been waiting for a storm like this for 2 winters. I came in a hour ago. There was 4 inches then. I'll go out and clear a path every couple of hours. :crazy bannana

Yesterday was really bad - high winds and blowing snow - with Lake effect snow off Lake Michigan - super fluffy stuff ! Closest I can figure - about 7+ inches -
Suppose to have 2 really cold days - and then a warming trend ! That means we may hit 30 degrees !
Sunny today - and snow was partly melted off my car ! :D And the temp is only 15 !

just in for a coffee break ..wind picking up..have about 5 inches of sleet or whatever..I weigh around 170 and I can walk on top of this stuff in many places or just sink down an inch or so.. it is that wet and packed..need to get as much cleared today before it freezes solid tonight!!Been running the big green monster snow blower and it even bogs that down if I am not careful(dont wanna break a shear pin!) I would rather have a foot of fluffy snow than this crud...

Ours is already frozen solid underneath from the rain and sleet that fell for much of the day...My son has plowed all his life and he said he has never had this much trouble plowing...Right now the truck with plow are stuck at the bottom of the driveway..he's on his way down with the tractor to try to get it unstuck !!! We have a really long driveway...we may be stuck in here until Spring !!!!! I also have a mare almost ready to foal...I sure hope she doesn't decide to do it today...the stall wall has been taken down but the video camera is not up yet... :!:

It's the pits ... with a capital SH up here.

I lost a calf this morning ... born into -40 weather. Didn't stand a chance. By the time we found her, she was comatose with hypothermia.

I thought we were through the worst of it. They said the weather was going to break overnight last night. It didn't. Now they're saying it'll break tonight. Gawd, I hope nobody else calves in the meantime!

What a depressing way to start VD!

Maribelle you KNOW that mare is gonna wait at least until you are at the Expo next week ;-)
I too have never had so much trouble plowing..but I have only been doing it for 7 yrs :D ..a measly 5 inches should be a breeze....HA ...I gave up for the day -the drive is a sheet of ice. I threw some salt and Magnesium on it but its already drifting..will wait for the morning to cinder...
