This is the fair of the horse an event we have all been waiting for now over a year!

First, on Thursday is the grand opening of the art exhibit
" El Caballo en la cultura Puertorriquena"
at the "Musea las Americas," on the second floor of cuartel Ballaja.

The art in this show covered all disaplines,
Sculpture, Drawing, Serigraph, Crafts, Painting, and more!
the collection had works from the 1700s til the present day

I lent the museum "Medio Dia" drawing to be part of this show
the only other art of a ppr I recognized inmediately, was a painted portrait of Dulce Sueno, Property of Awilda Colon Irizarry
by the famous landscape artist "Oscar Colon Delgado."

This art expo will remain til april or May of this year

Uhhhh how do I upload images on this forum?

You must first load the photos to a website...I use www.photobucket.com
You will get a choice of sizing them...use the one that says Website/Email... its like 320 x 240 pixels or so....
Find it at the top of each photo you upload...the "resize" word.

Find it at the top of each photo you upload...the "resize" word.

After they are uploaded, you can just copy the IMG code under the thumbnail pix and paste it here in your post on APF. It helps if you have both sites open at the same time and just minimize as you are working.

Also...if you already have the pix posted on another forum...you don't have to use photobucket., you can just Rt click on the photo and copy the Properties URL, then come here and hit the IMG icon at the top of your post and paste the URL and then hit the IMG icon again.

Should look like this

ok, I chose to divide the photos, half for this forum and half for pasofinodirectory, different and unique photos will be posted for each forum. I thought that would be best.

I'll go to photobucket and check that out now.

Thank you for your help,

The currator for the "Musea de las Americas" is
Dra. Adlin Rios Rigau and the catalog for this show
was published by the Musea de las americas & Ecuela de
Arte Ecuestre, of who Melba & Janette Figueroa are in charge of.

The catalog of all the art at this expo is a fancy 2 inch thick coffee table
style mastepiece book by the arte ecuestre school & the Museum.
Is cost $250.00 & I imagine it will be available at the meseum store
on th first floor of Cuartel "Ballaja" in Old San Juan. ( for anyone planing to visit Puerto Rico.
This is a poster or "Cartel" in Spanish, they were often Serigraphs made for up and comming paso Fino events, Both open & PPR...

The UFOs are Kites, called "Chiringas" in Puerto Rico, they have different names in different spanish speaking countries. People fly them on the vast grassy hills near the fort and within the city wall on weekends. This view shows the wall guarding the seaside of the city, on the other side is a cliff, then the sea.

Lori, I barrel raced for 4 years in Puerto Rico in the 1970s. I'm not sure how it got started, but I remember seeing B&W photos at our riding club that was taken in the early 1960's of drill teams and gymkhanas. Sadly, I have no idea what happened to those photos. :(

When I lived there all the military bases and posts participated in gymkhanas and we had two private clubs that all participated. Each riding club would host a gymkhana for the month and the host duties were rotated among the different clubs. I competed all over the island.

We followed the rules of a USA National Gymkhana organization. I can't remember the name of that either. We had regulation arenas and regulation patterns to run. Each club chose 5 patterns to run for their event and we had 7 age groups: 5-8, 9-11, 12-15, junior women, junior men, senior women and senior men. The average number of horses for each show was around 200 and the age group I competed in had an average of about 50 competitors. Placing meant something.

We were very serious about the shows. We had electronic timers, we ran three lanes at the same time, we had back up timers with stop watches and a lane judge to determine if the run was within the assigned lanes. A ride was disqualified for running out of the lane, for starting at a run, and for breaking the pattern. All horses had to enter the arena under control, and had to be in control after the run. All horses started in a "start box" in their lane.

We started at 8-9 am and ended around 5-6 pm. We had a grand entry parade for all the clubs, got judged on our outfits and parade group, and had the posting of the colors (flags) "western style" The flag bearers would run at a full gallop around the arena crossing paths and then come to a stop to set the flags up.

Oh, yeah, these pencos gaited after it was all over with too.

One thing I can't understand is...why the people wasn't allowed to take pictures or videos freely? Do you have any information on the subject, Ferrum?
Also, I wanted to ask you if that sabino horse has blue, red or black eyes, and if its black, could it be that the glimp of the camera or the sunlight made it look that way?

Thanks in advance,

Dear Terry, unfortunately for me, I was tied up all week long with a sick relative at the clinic and a lot of work, I even had to use a friend's laptop in order to check my E-mails.

Nevertheless, I saw those pictures and every magazine, tv comercial, show- you name it! I'm always aware of those things. Its a force of habit; I saw things almost nobody pays attention to. I do have a very trained eye, and the reason is that when you check all those things in a photo, or a video, real life, etc.; you are learning how do things the right way. That's also the reason I share this comment with you all.

I recomend to give it a try, its fun to find things that in a simple look you can't find in a picture, like a red spot on a horse lips. A flashing movement of a horse's ear when passing onto the fino board because somebody stands up from the crowd, you can see that in a video and know the reason why the horse accelerates the paso at that particular rate, etc.

As I said, I always look at all those things but sometimes its better to zip because not everyone likes to learn. Capice? So, I did learn to just limit myself to express the positive things that I find interesting in the pictures. Some people are unaware of the punishment they inflict on their horses.

Like two young fellas that I rescued a little mare from. They had been riding that pregnant mare for hours and she colapsed. It was like a circus; all the people came quickly to see the spectacle. The mare fell and couldn't get up. I parked my car blocking the street so no car could pass through and then I checked the mare, no broken bones, she was exausted and couldn't lift her weight.

The police came to the scene and asked me if I knew what I was doing...of course I knew; I then told him: And as a matter of fact that mare is dehidrated she problably needs a month to reestablish her strength and bla-bla-bla...the kids didn't know they had to rest the mare for a long period of time before attemping to start riding it again.

They learned their lesson, I made sure of that. The moral of the story... some people need to learn how to take care of their horses or some people don't deserve to have horses to take care of!!! Barabing - Barabang the end. ( I wrote too much for one day) (that's to make up for the time I've been absent)

Hi Ferrum, What hapend is that I readed in a local news paper that no one will be alaud to take pictures or videos in the event... was sounds a non sence to me since its prove to be imposible to stop anybody from take peictures or videos.
The white coat-pink skin- black eye-horse, on that picture its very interesting to me since I study all colors patterns in horses and this one is rare...if for instance, you'ld said Black skin, white coat, black eyes or pink skin, white coat, with blue or red eyes; that would it been diferent.
I want to learn more about this one in the pic. The cremelos with blue eyes are not rare, but pink skined horse with blue eyes...I consider them rare. white color is heterozygous (sory if mispell) its not a dominant gene.
That means dark eyes are almost imposible.
I've been reading an article about "Color Geneics" in Show Time paso fino magazine, wish I strongly recomend! and I pay spesial atention to what its saying about recessive gens. Like I said, I love to study about color patterns in horses coat among other issues of the horses and for that reazon I ask about the one on Ferrum's pic.
Thanks for everything Jo-Ann you are an assett to the horse world as well and I mean it!!!

but haw abot make a game out of this "trained eye" thing? Alaud me to explain my self....
I'll post a picture of a horse and rider sugesting a situation and you can tell as many things as you can point out to us, so we can have a good time learning how to identify what is not so obvious for the non trained eye.
I'll post it as a new topic, that way will not interfere with this topic.
