Oh yes in deedy - When Jim Cantori from the Weather Channel can’t GET to your area, you know you’re in trouble! Yesterday I went to work after snowblowing about 8 inches of snow out of my driveway (yes, I’m one of THOSE) because hey, I don’t want to use a vacation day on non-riding weather. Cooperstown (where I work) made National news I am told. Fired up the Honda and off I go.
Anyhoo, at 1:00pm the boss says - you Must go. Everyone else in my department had left or just did not come in. Got stuck about 4 miles from work because I could not see and drove off the road into the opposite side. Luckily a young fella in a big pickup came along (how, I will never know) and hooked a chain on and dragged me out. Glad I had some cash on me to give him, which he refused but I threatened to smack him if he did not take it. Meantime the snow plow comes and I follow him the next 5-6 miles and then he turns. Not good. Got 1 mile from home and parked in a neighbors driveway - the only one plowed I saw. Walked thru waist deep snow and finally at 6:15 I walk/crawl get into my house. Over 6 hours to get 14 miles.
Wade out to the barn and do chores as best I can. Snowblow until 11:00pm and call it quits. But the main thing is at that point I am golden. Can get to work etc because I have unburied my truck and will fire it up if need be - BUT - my road is still not plowed at 6:00am (when I leave for work) so back to plan A. Took the day off after calling my department and one guy who lives in town got in at 10am. No one else was able to get there.
Finally the snowplow comes by and I blow out the mess, walk down to get the car, drive to BJ’s and buy a new set of tires - needed them anyway even tho they would not have done any good yesterday.
I have come up with a new equine gimmick too during all this. You know those “painted poines”, well I am going to sell “planted ponies”, which is what mine look like out in the paddock. Looks like I stuck em in the ground and they have not quite grown entirely - only halfway!!!! I keep throwing the hay further and further out so they stomp down some of the area. At 4pm they were all (prego one too) bucking, kicking, and raising cane. It got up to 8 degrees today and the wind was fierce!
Grand total of snow - I measured - 38 inches on the flat - in less than 24 hours. Oh, yeah, my flyboy husband left Tuesday for Naples, FL and will return Sunday. It’s OK, though because I am so happy/grateful to be fit and able to take care of myself and my own - AND I love a good snow blizzard. Pictures this weekend. Somehow I think the snow will still be here!
