First Sorry I got no pictures. Forgot the camera. It didn't matter though I would not have had a chance to take even one hand of the reighns.

Noche was the bad end of a Jack A for most of the ride with a good moment here and there. Actually the last fifteen were almost a normal ride. I only had a bosal on him and he Pulled, tugged, through his head around and let me know that this whole riding thing was not to his likeing at all. No Bucking or rearing though.

Other than that I was told the scenery was gorgeous and trail was great and the company was wonderful. 6 of us left out, met up with 2 others while riding. One of which was on a 23 year old rescue Paso gelding and her friend is in the market to buy her first and possibly second Paso. I beleive we convinsed her that what she had been told about Pasos was a little far fetched info. We got back to the parking area to find some late scragglers and went to do a loop with one of them do to one horse being sore from a cyst in her hoof.

Then I dropped off Rebel at his new home on my way home. So all in all a great day. I will have to say even a day riding a ill tempered Paso is better than a day watching football. And I do love my football.

Well - we even missed riding with the stragglers! :-) But Dawson is an awesome ride... unfortunately, all the trail maps were gone so we followed some riders out who were doing the 'red' trail.... very well-marked and even more steep! Loved it, horses did well, well - after Greg caught Bo and brought him back for me.... got dumped 20 yards out.... on careful retrospection - I think the saddle bag I had tied to the back of the saddle must have gotten slitched up under the saddle panels when he dunked his head looking for a snack and the back of the saddle lifted up a bit.... bad combination.... he was terrific the rest of the ride!

The trail we rode had 6-8 water crossings - most were small. There is a 12 foot wide river crossing on one of the other trails, but recent rains made it risky from what others told us... We'd like to try it next time if the river is down some...

This is definitely a location we'll be back to try out... :D

LOL - I _thought_ the trail was pretty 'challenging', but Greg somehow managed to capture the 'essence' of this 'surreal' ride in Dawson Forest... and no, it isn't PhotoShopped except to reduce the size! :D

If you live anywhere in the area, you have to try this place!

This is me on 'Bo', our new gelding... he did great once he realized he couldn't get back to his hay until we said he could..

Wow...that camera(man) has quite the touch...or some good drugs! ;-)

Boyd....a few more rides like that and you'll be calling Noche "Alpo"...LOL

Noche was 'sent' to you to (re)teach you humility, after your great success with Rebel. Kind of like what dog trainers experience when they tell their cat to "go lay down." LOL

Keep after him...you'll succeed yet.

The camera(man) has been on lots of drugs lately, Singulair, Advair, Pseudaphed, guifenessin(sp?), etc. Been a little bit of a rough winter...
Great ride, though, wonderful trail(s), though we only rode the red trail. Very scenic, wish I'd taken more pictures, quite steep in places and a great place to work on water crossings. Pete and Bo did their best mountain goat impressions and did surprisingly well, even seemed to enjoy the view. Pete also proved very alert to other trail users approaching well before we or Bo were.
Definately a return trip is in order. It's a very interesting place, formerly the home of Lockeed's (rumored) atomic plane research facility, still some orphan loading docks and sidewalks around. If only they could talk. Anybody up for a ride?

We wondered what all that weird stuff was when we did a LD endurance ride there last year. Strange looking construction stuff. Told you it was steep!! I'm thinking it began to rain so we didn't have time to ride on Sunday and just left and came home. Lula lost one of her Easy Boots in a red mud bog - it just got sucked off and we never found it. Someone else lost one but it was turned in but noone found a 00 boot.
