You know...if they're a hard keeper...try floating their teeth...it's remarkable what that can do to put weight back on a horse.
Hope you get him back, Shelley.

You're right, he's no normal TB. Any TB that rides on a halter & lead in a relaxed frame.
That's a NICE horse.

Yeah, what Paula said. Is he that calm all the time? He has a little age on him, but it shouldn't be hard to find someone that wants a nice horse like that. I sure hope you get him back and put in a forever home.

Have not heard back...someone saw him today and said he was thinnner then in those pics and I was HORRIFIED by how he looked then..
He ran the fence for 2 days when I got him and had sweat for the two days...then he calmed down and was fine...he was very hyper sensitve to flyes though...
I asked Natalie that saw him today what they said about him and I have not heard back from her yet..

Most TBs are hard keepers. Everyone we ever had wouldn't hold weight unless they worked on a very regular basis. As for the calm disposition, most that we had were like that. I can't say fire breathing is in their personality. We have had a few over the years and all of them came off the race track.
Mel can attest to their personalities and how hard they are to keep weight on.
We were told to keep weight on them, they needed to be lunged at a trot on a hillside for at least half an hour. It helps fill out those muscles around their backbones. Even if you feed them to death, you never get that filled out without working them so they still look thin.
Regular feed and serious work is what it takes for those guys. They aren't the horse that just stands around.

I worked in a TB jumper barn. Only a few were 'hot'...the rest seemed like nice horses, and you're right, they were not easy keepers. Probably explains why Paso Finos founder when you put them on diets developed for Thoroughbreds.
