We picked up my boarder's new TWH horse today. She bought him for her 11 yr old daughter. He is a sweetie. Loaded nicely, trailered nicely and immediately made friends with her other horse. They were sharing a hay pile this afternoon. He seems so mellow. His name is Stetson.

Wow..she's going to get nose bleeds clear up there! ;-)
He is very pretty for a TWH, not too homely at all! Very nice.

Actually, he is not that tall, only about 15 hands. I think Prince is still a little bigger. But he holds his head so upright he looks about 17hands. He did great for his 1st night in a new place. He had shavings on his back so I know he layed down. Ate his food and seems happy to be with Nieta and sniff Mikka (the other mare) over the fence. The boys are determinedly ignoring him.

You will find he may be the most mellow horse in your barn. A good TWH is an honest horse.

Terry - Kind is right! What other breed would withstand years of torture at the hands of man and still do their job!!! The fact that they are so forgiving has always endeared the TWH to me. I have always wondered what would have happened to the paso fino or the arab if people intentionally pricked, and sored them, stacked and racked them. I cannot see many of the pasos that I've owned (or trained) or arabs taking this kind of abuse day after day. I think they would have rebelled and become the "pitbulls" of the equine world - Really. I think they would have been labeled dangerous and unbalanced and perhaps, like the pitbull, society would demand they all be distroyed. I can tell you that "arab" and "paso" are four letter words to many, many trainers. They consider them nuts, over-reactionary, yadda, yadda, yadda.
Sorry to hyjack your thread, Terri. That child has herself a great horse!

I'ver owned TWH before and I really like them, but I like a Paso Fino a little better.
There is nothing like feeling you are sitting astride a time bomb, that reacts to your que's in miliseconds, not seconds.
People think Pooh is going to explode any second yet he never does.
No "Passer Finners" and I'd for sure have TWH.
I couldn't agree more Red Ryder... I adore my paso fino and his 'class A' brio -or nuttiness as some would express it. I am, however, looking for an old stable TWH for hubby now. Something that doesn't move so fast and "doesn't bump you up and down" in hubby's words. LOL

I too would not trade my paso for a walker, but this gentle soul will be just right for this little girl who is just entering the "oh, so special' early teen years. A nice steady sweet horse will be perfect. They rode him today for a bit. He was nervous on the street but behaved. He is a good boy. Mico has glared at him and made noises at him over the fence, letting him know just who is in charge. But I know Mico, when we put them together (after all the ice disappears), he will just make him run around for a few minutes, make it clear he (mico) is the boss and that will be the end of that. The one I am worried about is Prince. Prince is a bit of a bully, not a true alpha horse like Mico, just a thug. And he seems to have taken a dislike to Stetson. Well, we will figure that out after the ice goes. Until then he and Nieta are doing fine in the side paddock.

Lucky girl!!! A 28 year old TW was our trail buddy for several years and taught our horses all about trail riding. He was amazing and a really sweet boy.
