Ok, I have been riding a gelding at my barn for quite a while now, and he was finally deemed by the trainer ready to go to the show.

We were both a little nervous on Saturday and I wasn't cueing him quite the same as the trainer. We started off in a nice corto but he kept gaining momemtum till we were largoing...then they ASKED for a largo and I had no where to go. Also his board was not to good as that is probably his weak spot. He likes to start off straight and then meander off to the side so I was worried about it and we just didn't have the best board ever....but we still got an honorable mention. 8 Horses in the class.

So the trainer helped me tweak him up a bit and learn more of his cues for the next day.

Today was a much better day for both of us and Eclipse had a perfect performance on the rail...but his first two steps on the board he kind a hopped on, but then went perfect down it.....so we got a 4th under one judge and 6th from the other. 8 horses again.

So for experience, I took him in the Championship class of 13 horses. He had a good rail AND a good board! But we didn't make the cut down to top 6, however our very own Suezette Rodriguez DID win that championship A/O Pleasure class on her mare. So I was very pleased that he finally got the board thing down ok before the end of the show, and I feel a little more comfortable in the ring too. ;-)

I only got a few pix from the first day...forgot the camara in the car today. And trusty PasoMom wasn't there to capture all the greatest moments, but I'll post what I have.

btw-my new tack looked fabulous, but my breast collar was WAY too big on Eclipse so he couldn't wear it. It needs to have some more holes punched. :-?

You look pretty snazzy there kiddo! Two more ribbons for your Dad  .....maybe his birthday? ;-)

I see you have on a turtle neck under your pretty orange shirt......a little chilly down there in the land of the sun and beaches!

It got down to 26 here Sat/Sun . I had to cover hedges and run the irrigation on the nursery. From what I could tell, looked like it got down into the 30's there (Miami) also Sat nite/Sun.

It was pretty cool here most of Saturday but Sunday warmed up nicely.

*giggle. snort. lol.* You mean to say, it's been as warm HERE in ALBERTA, as it was in MIAMI?

That is too rich! *grinning from ear to ear*

You look beautiful Lori...

But I agree with Shelley...hope they are not polyester! I *POPPED* off Zar once in polyester 'show pants' just like an icecube out of an ice tray!

Wow, you both look great! You both are very nicely turned out and be is beautifully groomed. Nice new tack set, too.
Pete has some trouble staying at a corto on the rail, too, just a little enthusiastic. Sometimes more than a little...
Good job.

Too cute Lori! Both of you! :D How nice to see you ready for the ring. Sounds like you did quite well...he'll get there. Don't feel bad about the "not having anywhere to go"...I think I've seen that before. Sounds like he had a good time, and that's a big part of the game..if he's having fun, he'll do just fine! Congratulations! :D

WTG Suzette! Where are YOUR photos? :D

Very nice Lori, nice change to see you with a bra on. ;-)

Are you kidding? I wore two! Eclipse isn't nearly as smooth as Batman is. ;-)

Thanks everyone. I was real proud of this guy and I think he might just make a nice little pleasure/performance gelding. One of my friends watching said he was a little performance compared to the others. Especially his walk and largo. *It is very animated. So I might try that class next time too and see how he does. (I didn't think to bring the tux or I would have tried this weekend).

I have to admit he was much calmer than Tequila was at the previous show. So his future looks bright as a show horse. 8-)

Wow yes, you BOTH look GREAT!
Just remember for the next time YOU decide every step he takes.....you put him at a certain speed in corto - the VERY SECOND he goes just A HAIR faster, CHECK HIM! let him know, YOU are in charge, he is not to make ANY decisions.....same with the board(and ALL corners of the ring), YOU control how straight he goes- he is NOT to move over even an inch, without YOU telling him to!
If he gets used to you being in charge every second....and YOU get used to doing it, so that its second nature to you...you'll clean up! I know, the nerves get the better of you, but remember - everyone else in the class really feels the same way INSIDE, just dont let the nerves "freeze" you....action! I have no doubt, the 2 of you can do it! Mind over matter......is all! CONGRATS on getting your feet wet.....remember there's a first time for everyone!

Thanks Stella. That is the exact advice my trainer gave me. ;-) I guess I felt I couldn't correct him in the class b/c I didn't want him to throw a fit (which he has been known in the past to do  ) But I felt much more comfortable about doing it by the Championship class, so I was glad we entered. I think my nerves are worse on Saturday and I do much better on Sundays. But I feel much better each time in the ring. I just need to keep going and hopefully we will place higher each time. ;-)
