Join us August 4th to 6th for the second annual
Western Canadian Paso Fino Friends Get Together!
Just like last year, we will be hosting the Paso Fino Friends ride on the August long weekend. That way, most people will have time to come out and participate, with out having to book any time off work. Let’s enjoy our horses, have some fun, and make some new friends!
Camp out: 40 minutes north east of Edmonton Alberta on our farm . Our farm is located between Lamont and Chipman just ½ a mile south of highway 15. (Please e-mail me for a map to our farm if you are coming.) We will provide a grass area for camping, fresh water for you and your horses, and an outhouse. We will also provide a big round bale of mixed hay so you don't have to haul feed for your horse. We do have a few portable panels that can be made into small horse pens. If you need a pen for your horse please book early because our supply is very limited. Arrive anytime on Saturday and leave after breakfast on Monday.
Trail ride: On Sunday we will trailer (a short distance) to the south side of the Cooking Lake - Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area where there are miles of wonderful horseback trails. We'll ride through forest, pastures and wet lands. All the trails in Blackfoot are well maintained and there is very little gravel so your horse will not need to be shod. The ride will consist of an eight mile loop through knob and kettle terrain with a stop-over for lunch. As there is no access for vehicles to this years lunch stop over site, please bring some form of saddle bags to carry your brown bag lunch (provided). This is not a race and we intend to go at a moderate pace, varying between a walk and an easy corto, so that we can all enjoy the natural environment. The first segment of the ride will be approximately five miles, and then after lunch we will travel another three miles back to the Central Staging Area. We strongly recommend that your horse have some conditioning before this ride. We plan to take a fairly leisurely trip, but there are a few hills that could tire a horse out.
Meals: In the interest of keeping costs down, we will NOT be hosting a pre-ride breakfast this year! Instead we would like everyone to bring their own breakfast for Sunday morning. Coffee tea and juice will be provided. Drop in any time between 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. for your morning java. For lunch we will provide a brown bag meal of sandwiches and snacks. Bring a small set of saddle bags or a backpack so that you can take your food on the trail with you. We also recommend that you bring a water bottle or two as we will be out on the trail for quite a while. Supper will consist of a Bar-B-Q back at the farm at about 6 p.m. This won't be the usual trail ride hotdogs! We hope you'll enjoy our slightly upscale meal with meat salads and all the fixin’s. Supper will be buffet style to be enjoyed while visiting with your new-found friends. (If you have any food allergies we are not equipped to deal with that so please bring your own food and store it in one of our fridges.)
Something New: On Monday morning we would like to have a pot luck style - continental breakfast. If every one who comes for the camp out could remember to bring some breakfast food to share, we will set things up and have a visit before everyone heads out. You do not have to bring anything fancy for breakfast as we do not intend to cook Things like muffins, rice cakes, banana loaves, oranges, apples, donuts, pudding packs, or cinnamon buns, are all easily packed without the need for refrigeration. Hot coffee, tea and juice will be provided. Everyone enjoyed the breakfast gathering so much last year that we hate to skip it, yet we found that $25.00 did not cover the cost of three meals. So, this year, we hope that everyone will participate in our continental pot luck breakfast!
Cost: There will be a small fee for each person participating in the camp out and/or trail ride. (This is no about profit, as the money it is just enough to cover the cost of the meals.) Please pre-register as we need to know who will be attending this event prior to July 30 so that we know how much food to purchase. Cost = $25.00 if registration is paid by June 30th, $30.00 if paid after July 1st
For more information, registration forms or a map to our farm or please PM me or Phone at 780-895-1019
It should be a great time and we would love to see you there!
(Please pass this e-mail along to anyone who might be interested in joining us. I do not know all the Canadian Paso Fino owners and I would not want any one to miss out.)
