"Poker Joe" aka Hijo successfully moved from 16th to 10th in the "Battle of the Breeds" at the Bozeman, Montana WinterFest.
We did our prelims 2 weeks ago and Hijo squeaked in at the 16th of 16 horses qualifying. Thirty four horses competed for slots. He was proudly representing "Gaited Grades". He was the only horse entered with any gaited horse in his background so the competition was light. Points were awarded for placements from 1st - 6th. He placed 3rd in ground driving and 6th in Cattle Sorting. We took a pass on jumping the horse, but my dog ran the course with me riding to make a statement about jumping young horses. For a horse that hasn't yet reached his 3rd birthday I was really happy with his ring etiquette and willingness. The other three events were a Trot or Gait race, a Reining Pattern and a gaming pattern. The breeds in order of placement were:
Belgain, Morgan, TB, Gypsy Vanner, Quarab, QH, Grade, Tb/QH, Arab, Paso/QH, Pony Grade, Paint, Donkey, Mustang, Heavy Grade, and Appy.
