With good care and lots of love there are several older horses still out there competing..... Here's the last Arab stallion that I owned before switching to Pasos.... He was hard to give up but ended up in a much better suited home for him.... After years of being an endurance and show horse (and winning 2 times as Most Congenial on the trail from the Tampa Bay Arabian Club------ something never before done by a stallion in 26 years of their doing the award) Kaiyoum Might is undergoing training by his owner, Beth Phillips for dressage... A new adventure for both of them...
Here's photos of Kaiyoum Might and Beth done by Cheri Prill at their first show.... and by the way, this year he'll be 21......

Next up on the list of competing ole timers will be El Agula de San Felipe....(as soon as I can find the photo site)
Anyone want to add some contributions to this thread... I know there are lots of older horses out there still competing......!!!

I sold an older App gelding "Fire Ryder" to a non pro, she in turn sold him to her trainer. The last I heard at 21 years of age he was competing in NBHA (National Barrel Horse Assoc.) at the 2nd dividion. As well as competing in the ApHC Youth Nationals. From what the owner trainer said he was not only competing, but was winning!
He too wound up in a better for him home. He was at the age were if you don't use it you loose it. So the every day riding was great for an older horse!
This is the horse that I keep saying reminds me on Ruths (Minori's) Snowy

Beautiful horse Rusel (great pics Cheri!!). He's the kind of Arab I really like. I don't care at all for what has been done to the breed...the snaky neck and narrow nose with super wide eyes. I like the classic look....like his. You really can't improve on such beauty!
He's a great tribute to love and good care.

not a paso but me first real horse was a QH who i bought instead of a car he was 18 at the time. I showed him in his first show at the age of 26 and won the class it was a small class but i was proud of him. Rode him up untill the day before he died at the age of 31. I loved that horse i will never forget him. Tanner you were the best.

Rusel, he is one stunning stud! No wonder you had a tough time giving him up! Breath-taking.

At the Mid-American Paso Show my Monty's sire Amigo Animado showed - he was 23 at the time !
If it didn't cost so darned much - I would try showing Monty - age 21!

That is Brandy Johnson riding the handsome Kaiyoum in those pix. Many of you may recognize Brandy from the FL region Paso Shows. Brandy is my partner in our Horse Show Photography Business "Stunning Vision Photography". SO you will see her in the arena snapping photos. I keep trying to convert them to pasos. Brandy is a natural at riding pasos. Their Farm took some interest and not too long ago purchased & imported a really good black fino stallion and they also have a black performance mare. Now I am trying to get her in the arena. haha

I LOVE him! I used to have a grey Arab Gelding named Telik Martut and I loved him. I sold him 14 years ago when my son was born (no time to ride). He was 11 at the time and I often wonder if he's still on this earth. He got a great home and I'm sure he was able to live out his life there.
