Why are so many online forums paranoid about rival sites? If their site is good, people will stay there. What is wrong with knowing about/visiting multiple sites on the same subject?

it seems a little petty to me. I am very glad that we can share information freely here!

I agree...I would like to know about all the Paso sites. I understand that there is probably competition for advertisers, but if you keep your site a secret, or if people feel they can't mention 'that other site', how will advertisers even know about it??

Different sites fill different needs and approaches - and we shouldn't have to hide the fact we visit different ones !
This one is active and much more relaxed that several others - I love to read the ones that are geared toward more techincal and pros talking about bloodlines and such - but rarely post there ! ;-)

I visit WAY too many sites and forums, so I'd never limit you all to just mine. ;-) And I read a lot of different magazines, so I could never expect folks to choose just one. JHMO.
Plus it just takes too much energy to get worked up about the little things.

sometimes the spirit of competition pops up where it's least needed and causes stupid conflict where it's totally uncalled for. I've joined so many horse bb's I can't find time to keep up with half of them. But I've learned a lot of things by having a great variety of people to listen to. The more I know about horses the more interesting they get.

Dr. Brown's book denotes a lot of research into other people's ideas and theories that validate his own ideas... I'm not sure that he has the technecial skills and knowledge to argue the debate. There were no resource materials to review to validate anything.....

Hummmm.... there I go thinking again.....and worse opening my mouth..!!

Would someone please help me with this addiction.... NEVER, NEVER, post a link that leads to thinking.... NO,,NO...NO...NO...

They always come back to the best one after seeing what's out there ;-)

Though it's much different. My Newf site is small and invite only (32 members), the other one is huge with thousands of members.

It's not quantity but quality. :D

It seems that I have a knack for starting trouble by asking some simple questions. I asked what made a rival site, the response was any site with a forum that related to the same subject matter as that site.

Someone else asked why it was such a big deal. Here is the response they got from the board mod. It gave me a very unwelcome feeling. How would you guys react? *edited to protect the innocent*

THANK YOU LORI - for being open minded and flexible!

Another ***** site which does not pay for advertising here does not have it's links put in posts, simple.
It makes it fair to companies and/or people who pay for advertising and it stops waste of spaces spammers coming here just to advertise their site.
You don't like our rules? I don't see anyone forcing you to stay here.

And on a side note
Quote:
b. Public arguing in regards to the sites rules or enforcement will lead to a warning. Any arguing with team members after having received a warning will lead to an immediate additional warning. Insulting, and disrespectful behavior via a PM will also lead to a warning. Should this exceed three strikes a temporary ban will be put in place as above.

If you have any issues regarding our forum rules PM a mod, do not continue this discussion in this thread.

That is a little tight for me.
I have been on so many forums of all types. I have also been treated like that on a few, and that is why I don't have those kinds of rules here. It doesn't make ppl feel comfortable. JMHO
