Went for a not so borein ride in the indoor arena w/chico today.. It started out w/a snort of fire and a letter rip kinda ride..lol
I was wanting a mellow ride but I could tell I wasnt getting that just as my butt hit the saddle seat.. I held him back for about 2 rounds, but we were fightin. So I said ok lets GO! And boy did we go!!!
His ears were pinned, like he was out to get somethin. Maybe he needed to blow off steam. maybe I did too because it was a blast!!!
It was a he** yeah kinda ride!!
Anyone else get rides like these?
After the ride we were both happy again, no fightin my ques and we just cooled down. I gave him his usual brush down and his cookies.
When I brought him back to the pasture he was hollerin for his budds, kinda like sayin "Hey we had a fun ride"!
:D

Two use to do this and Porcy did one time. I use to just let Two have his way and try to where him out. And then one day I said to him if you aren't going to listen here take control and I dropped the reighns and held on. He took off for a minute or two and then I could see his attitude change as if he was thinking hey this is boring without some one to pull against. He stopped and waited to be cued. Porcy done the same thing when I first began her undersaddle. Looks like Rebel will get one of those rides this week. That is if I can get my nerves up. The other two didn't have a mean attitude like Rebel not sure how this will work with him.

After he started slowing down, did you ask him to keep going a bit? I bet it was fun! I remember Rita "challenging" Stella on her tractor, that was a blast!

I do this when I feel that the horse really feels good and want to kick up his heels a little. I usually ask him to go just a little faster that he wants to go. Just have to be prepared for a little buck or two thrown in when they really feel good. Also make sure that the footing is good without holes. Of course I am on a trail usually without an arena.

LOL. This weekend. Tilly is 29 years old and Rusty is 30. You wouldn't think they'd be snorting fire at their age -- but there they were, loose on the trail that runs by their paddock, and running like heck every time Mike and I got near them. They were upset with us for "neglecting" them during the big rain storms we've been having. Yeah, like they were neglected -- their paddocks and sheds got mucked, they had plenty to eat and plenty of water to drink, and they got groomed and petted. I even put some Thrush Buster on their hooves prophyllactically to prevent thrush in all the damp. Oh, and they got massaged with their favorite liniment, too.
I sure guess it wasn't enough, though. Tilly opened the gate and there they went, down the trail at a walk, at first, then at a trot, and then at a gallop. Those horses know exactly how to express themselves when they're angry.
We did catch them, after a half an hour. Okay -- so after a bit of paddock cleaning, grooming, etc., we saddled them up to go for a trail ride. They both danced and bucked and pranced like yearlings. After an hour of trotting and cantering and a walk up and down one of the steeper trails, they were finally satisfied, tired and ready to go home again.
I have never seen elderly horses so full of beans! I've also never seen horses so happy to be ridden. Of course, they were just as happy when we got the saddles off them and gave them their afternoon hay, too.

MAN, Amante had largo fever today. I haven't ridden him in 2 months and boy was he full of it. We went a mile and a half at a walk and then I turned him towards home and vroooooooommmm, it was L-A-R-G-O time!!! It was crazy fast, let me tell ya. 50% of the time I was thinking, "Man, this horse can move!" The other 50% I was thinking, "Help, I'm being run away with!"
Largo ROCKS! Wheeeeeeeee!
