This is the same mare Ladybug that I worked cows with, and got some neat pics then. Just a little over a year now I've had this beautiful mare. She has come along way... baby!!!! Yahoo!

I don't understand the poll. Shouldn't it be something like:
What do you think?
She gaited better bridleless
She did better with a bridle
I don't know
or something?

okie dokie Poni..my first official poll.......
ignore the first one.....my way of thinking is not always universal
 see below......
first option: she gaits better and more consistent without a bridle
second option: she gaits better and more consistent with a bridle
third option: I can't decide...want to see more pics

:D I like 'em all, then! Lol.
Notice where they put their head if they're allowed the choice- up and out. Makes me feel guilty about all those pics I have of Ickis with that pretty neck arch!

hint..hint: this mare truly resents any pressure on her nose or her mouth due to former abusive riding headgear. The pics on the webpage link have more of a caption for each photo then I put here.
I wish I had a photo of this mare's face when I leaned over (while aboard) after a warm-up with dropped reins and removed her bridle for the first time... she was like "Oh My Gawd..what did she just do?!" So Ladybug sure aimed to please me riding without the bridle. It'll be...Why do you need that old thing...just throw it away?
I will have it on to mount though since she is a fidgeter about mounting. One thing at a time to conquer!

I haven't tried Zumi bridleless in a long time, but Ickis used to prefer bridleless. When we were both skinny, I'd climb on him with just a twine around his neck out in the pasture, and ride all over- up and down the runway (aside it, rather) and the fields, over to the neighbors-across-the-field, etc.
When Graybaby was here for awhile, I rode her bridleless several times, too, and she did really well. Zumi's a little less laid-back though... I keep headgear on him with reins, because he's rocket-powered :D

Hey, she looks awesome! Pitty aits very well without a bridle too. Plus, it's a lot of fun to "ride like an Indian" sometimes ;-)
Great pics!

Everyone can meet at my house and we'll ride over to watch Edurne's new act: Bridle-less Assisted Dismount. Just get my pictures done first!
hehehe.

My assisted dismounts are usually spectacular airborn missiles...... it's the landings!

On a serious note.....don't try this unless you have done preliminary training work needed. It most likely will not suit the needs of every horse. Probably less then more.
Why I choose to work with this mare is she has old issues involved with pressure on her nose or mouth or poll too for that matter. Plus she neckreins easily. So she was an ideal candidate in need of an alternative training method. She also is a higher energy horse, not a lazy horse. She listens to cues and is intelligent. Plus there is a good level of trust between horse and trainer. I have been working with her off and on towards this goal for 6 months now. I have even worked her with no neck rope at all...that will take more time for her and me to coordinate and learn our body/leg cues together to be in better sinc...so the neck rope is the intermediate tool to eventually reaching the goal of nothing extra. I will restructure my rope to suit her better; it is too big now. 8-)

Great Lynn! I'm glad you finally 'took the plunge!' I think Ladybug is definately happier w/o the head gear...I know Zar prefers "riding naked."
I'll echo your pre-training to riding bridless. For anyone who wants to try this, make sure you have good communication with the horse, with solid cues for stopping, slowing and turning at a minimum. Backing and sidepassing are a plus.
Good job.

My boy will actually bend at the poll gaiting at liberty and on the lunge line tool... Head up and nose in. ;-)
Lovely pictures, I wish I could ride Michico like that, but he's just too eager to go. My new little girl Dina though, I bet she'd be a good candidate...
