A group of us get together for co-op advertising, breed demos, joint open house advertising and on line chatting to come up with creative ways to market the other Paso Finos (Competative trail, endurance, contest and just plain old trail riding for fun). full page ad rate are affordable when shared - sharing ideas can give you new opportunities that you may not have thought of.

If you would like to join our informal group drop me an email and I will get more info to you as well as send a link for our chat.

Let's have the link. :D
So is this for advertising in other breed magazines? To promote the breed not farms? Sounds interesting.

What a great idea!!! I often look through the pages of other magazines and wonder where our ads are. Glad to see some people getting together and getting things moving forward!

Good job!!

Lori to answer your qusetion - it is to promote the breed but of course since it is a group of breeders/owners or trainers chipping in to pay for the ad we have devised a simple fair way to list the farms that have paid for the ad... everyone supplies a photo and we try to get one in from each breeder or what ever is best to PROMOTE the breed and the ad as a whole.

Brilliant idea! I think some VA breeders also co-op ads for PFHW. I'm trying to get some PPR breeders to do the same! The more folks get to see pasos the better!

I hope some ads will appear in places like the Gaited Horse Magazine which is woefully deplete of paso advertising or articles (hint, hint) or Conquistador. There's also a market index from TheHorse.com which periodically lists paso fino farms (needs more) and the local Ag bulletins. I've seen Ernie Sanz advertise 222 offspring in some.

There some regional news type magazines that come out as well covering various areas of the USA. I see Barb P's horses all the time and the cost is VERY reasonable!

Our ads are already running in some of the gaited magazines with more to come.. I hope others jump on the idea. We have been doing it for a few months now.

That's good to hear.

The only gaited mag I subscribe to is Gaited Horse. Lots of Foxtrotters, some walking horse ads, and Rocky Mountains. Some Peruvians but very little of pasos. They even wrote an article about gait and got the paso gait wrong! I still need to write a letter to the editor about it.

We looked at Gaited Horse but currently their pricing has been a bit out of reach for the smaller group of us - maybe as we build in size..

Yeah, it's rich alright. I don't know their circulation numbers, but I'd never seen the magazine. I decided to try a subscription based on some other comments here and because I would invariably end up on their web site when looking around about other topics.

I like the magazine and enjoy the articles. I've got to renew.

I wonder if a group of those of us with "american foundation" pasos could put something together?

I would be game!

Actually, we had a full page color ad - inside back page - in the Gaited Horse fall issue (prior to the current issue) - the one with Sheryl Crowe on the front. We also had a number of flyers of the ad printed by GH. In that issue, I believe there were a _large_ number of Paso ads and specifically Coral-bred ads. I believe that is also the issue where GH highlighted Coral LaCE as a leading stallion inthe PFHA breed.

If you need that issue or a flyer, I have a few left.

Yeah, I saw that Sandy and good job! I see more about Coral bred horses and that's good--not saying it isn't. Just would like to see more of the same.

If you watch to see which bloodlines/breeders advertise - you will notice the same ones over and over. That's why some bloodlines are better known - their breeders have stepped up to the plate - with cash in hand - over and over and over. Advertising is _not_ cheap and there's _no_ guarantee that there will be any return on your investment. For sure, I would be more likely to advertise in all-breed/gaited/trail/endurance magazines, etc. than in - say - PFHW.... with the possible exception of the $50 Horse for Sale ads and inexpensive classifieds. Any big bucks will go to multi-breed venues. I don't want to sell to the 'choir'. I prefer outside/new to Pasos sales whenever possible - it benefits the breed in general.

I'm curious to know how many pleasure/trail riders dropped their membership in PFHA when the price of membership jumped up to include the price of the PFHW magazine? That is another example of mgt thinking they would add to the coffers when actually they may have driven away the very members that breeders like us would like to reach and so have reduced any possibility of me supporting PFHW with advertising dollars.

Just a thought...

I have not been to the website and really have not read any write ups about what happened at the Jan meeting..I assume the membership numbers are in there somewhere?Maybe we have not lost many?

AMEN Sandy, when we place an ad in all gaited or all breed magazines we can track the stats on our website from those ads, what pages they are on most and for how long, where they were linked from (like the magazines site if they are on line etc) when we were advertising in mostly Paso venues not nearly as much activity but that does not surprise me given the non-traditional type of horses we have.

It is important to me to know where my $ are bringing the best results.
