My two year old colt is having training lessons. After he goes midway through the lesson, he starts yawning quite a lot. Why would he do that?

I have always heard that yawning is a sign they are relaxing so that is good.

Yawning is usually a sign they are relaxed. It can also be a sign of trying to pass gas.

If he is also lifting his tail and trying to fart, then I'd look at his feces and feed for any sign of digestive problems.

it could also be a sign that he doesnt have enough to do........

perhaps you should intensify the workout!

Little Miss Marci, when she was 3 or 4 - gave a great BIG yawn in the line up after a class at Fonda! I think it may have been in front of Cindy - not sure!!!!

At that time I think she was nice and relaxed! LOL

Yawning, licking & chewing....I've understood that they are signs to show a release of pressure, and a communication sign among equines that basically ask's to come back "in" to the "herd"/join up....
