My Two Standardbreds Eli and Jacob..I sold Eli first (huge profit from what I paid) then I sold Jacob....again nice prfit..
Well I just got a call from the girl that bought Eli and she wants to sell him.....I offered her 1/2 of what she paid this summer...Well she excepted it..but I feel like a bum now..but the horse market sucks..He is UTD on everything...
So Do I go get him? She said she has tried to sell him with no luck (word of mouth) I am still getting calls from Jacobs ad..but it would be nice to keep Eli around to pony the yearling too and use for a guest horse as Star is so small...Ugg what do I do

But she is paying board on him...and if I bring him hear and feed him then it wont be worth it either..I probably wont sell him right away but keep him for a guest horse..she paid $1500 and I offered her $750 and she got to use him all summer anyway and dont think she wants to pay board or feed through the winter...I dont have to board..but he is big and will eat a fair amount ...and hay is $5 bale right now here..I dont have grass...

If there's any shred of sentimentality towards the horse, I'd say go get him, but if not, then you have to think of yourself, your finances, and your own horses' well-being first.

Jeesh Shelley, I can't believe you'd fall for such a sad line. ROFL!!!
Reminds me of a horse trader I used to know he sold and bought back the same horse 4 times, each time doubling his money. Not that THAT is what you are doing...
I think I'd offer to broker the horse for her. Then run some ads, call the people who have called you, see what you can do quickly. Then charge her just 10% of the sale price (hopefully more then the $750 you offered).
Good luck

I guess my decision would be based on the girl's ability to properly care for him.
If she is capable of taking care of him, then I would offer to broker him. Perhaps she just doesn't have enough contacts in the horse industry....
If it seems that she is unable to care for him then I would absolutely buy him back, and I wouldn't feel guilty about it at that point at all....
Or buy him back for the $750 price and write up a contract specifying that you will split any profits from the sale over and above the $750, less costs incurred by you to keep him until sold.. That way she could get a little bit more for him and you wouldn't be eating the cost of his care.

Why did she decide not to keep him?

Well she bought a QH and does not want to pay board on two horses....Board is due soon..She decided she does not want a gaited horse..Hello why did you buy a Starndardbred..First horse in many years...Mother with small children...Horse means nothing to me..not being cold but no attachments..bottom line she wanted $800 so I said bring him to me for that..she said fine..I will get him back tomorrow or Friday..She is happy so I will be too..Her board is like $250 so she saves that right off the bat and it is due this week...

So he is pacing bred and does gait under saddle? Not all STB gait I can attest to that! Just curious what are his bloodlines?( No I am not in the market lol..I will have Miss Ricci until she dies and I will probably go back to STB's after this job ends but I wanna ride a paso!)

Not sure of his papers the amish got him from a killer sale for a driver...drove him for years and could not keep weight on him...if the Amish said that you know he was skinny..I got him and fed him and he stays fat on just regular amount of feed..We broke him to ride and he was wonderful in the woods etc..Yes he paced..and trotted..He is the one in the back of these two pictures..

I don't know Shelley, I'm a sucker...if you don't think he'll get good care, I'd definitely go get him. He sounds like a nice horse...even IF he's not a Paso!
