Would you support a yearly all - around high point division?
I would like input that could possibly lead to a rule change submission.

What are the logistics?
The horse would have to compete in multiple classes/events
Bella Forma
Traditional Paso class (pleasure, performance or fino)
PFHA Specialty class OR an organized open contest event. (ie: reining, teampenning, jumping, endurance or competative trail) - of course if PFHA had more open contest type of events those could be substituted for outside organizations.

This will promote the Paso Fino that can do more - and do them well

Doesn't PFHA already have high point overall awards?

USEF has high point overall awards which require entry into a variety of classes in order to accumulate enough points.

I would rather see people spend their money showing at all-breed shows head to head with other breeds. In my opinion, that is the only legitimate way to gain the respect and attention as a _truly_ versatile breed. Showing 'to the choir' proves nothing outside the breed or to potential buyers who want evidence of a versatile horse - not promotional promises.

The Paso _is_ used for cattle work, for instance, in other countries on a daily basis. But even though - just like other breeds - Pasos aren't the best at _everything_, there's still no reason we can't show off their variety of skills and aptitudes here.

Sandy, that is why part of it is in open contest events... working cattle - endurance etc

This shows that the horse can compete agains all breeds but can also compete within our breed - as you know part of the argument is that "those pleasure/trail Pasos" can't compete in traditional classes, so they are not showing PFHA.
I dont know if overall highpoint has a requirement that you participate these type of events

My issue with the USEF points is that you have to register a horse in order to qualify.....sorry, but I am not going to pay an extra $200- for my mare so she can get an 'award' - if ALL horses were registered, opk, that would be different.....then it would be a more level playing field.......

Now, when Marci foals, I will probably record the baby, just for the heck of it since it is only $35.00.

Choose either Life or Annual Horse Recording from below:
❑ Lifetime Recording of the Horse/Pony (Required for Passports). To qualify for age discount, proof of age must be provided (i.e. registration
❑ a. $35 from birth to December 31st of year foaled.
❑ b. $85 for horses one year of age (from January 1st to December 31st of the first year after foaling).
❑ c. $160 for horses two years of age (from January 1st to December 31st of the second year after foaling).
❑ d. $200 for horses three years of age or older.
❑ $75 Annual Recording for 2007 (expires on November 30, 2007).

Well, I like the idea...but when you get to "organized event," you open the floodgates for abuse. Cindy's Events Committee, subcomittee is working on a way to point non-PFHA events in a way that makes sense, but it's almost impossible when there are so many and they all have different rules.

If you have a magic idea of how to do this, I'm sure you'll be welcome on the committee! :D :D :D :D

I would think that if it is an organized event (competition) obviously there are placements awarded. so if it is a print out you submit that, if there is no print out of placements PFHA could have a form that the participant takes to the organizers of the "open event" and have it signed. Seems pretty simple to me but I might be missing something because I dont know what is already in the works. Points would be awarded according to PFHA's placement rules and if you were 3rd in the event you get PFHA third place points..

This would certainly be a suggestion that we could add to the new Recreation Committee's suggestion box. This committee is currently in place temporarily, but not "official" until the BOD meeting in PR in Januar where it will be voted in or out (hopefully in). I am a member, Nancy Mills is chairperson, and the other members are the people on the Events Subcommittee.

We do have high point for the End, CTR and Pleasure Trail Horses of the year at this time. It has been suggested to have an all around trail horse, one which would receive an award for the total number of points earned in all three programs. That would be easy to do.

It has also been suggested that a Rider of the Year in Trail be awarded.

To incorporate a point system for disciplines other than these, such as reining, team penning, jumping and so on will take much time and effort by quite a few people. I will certainly put it in the "box" for future consideration.

It is my understanding from reading the Rule Book that points can already be obtained for showing in open breed shows. Cindy G., please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm referring to Chapter 6, page 99, I.c. "Points Awarded".

I believe there will be a brief summary of the Recreation Committee and its current members in the next PFHW magazine since I was asked to write it. Be sure to look for it.

Points are only earned in shows that are PFHA shows whether they be all breed shows or all Paso shows. PFHA does not give points for shows that are not sanctioned by the PFHA and run under the PFHA rules. Nor should they.

I misunderstood the rule. I wasn't aware PFHA ever put on any all breed shows. Thanks for the clarification.
