Hi all,

Before I start I will say that the vet will be called.

I am fostering a standard poodle female that was taken from a puppy mill situation. She is approximately 6 years old. Problem is that she does not go to the bathroom all that much and in fact and has not gone at all today and its 10 pm. She skipped a day the other day as well. Three days ago I added canned food to her diet hoping it would help. But she is neither pooping or peeing on a regular basis. She does not appear to be in a any distress and is very happy when she is outside and in the house. I have had a full week now, and she was spayed the day before I picked her up.

Edited to add that she has full access to water 24 hours a day. I feed my dogs in their crates, and she has no problem eating the food and will drink - just not alot of water.

Any thoughts or ideas??

Mona

Pinch her skin...is it going back down or staying peaked? If it is peaked, she is dehydrated and needs fluids. If you have sterile saline, you can inject it under the skin and it will help. Otherwise she needs IVs.

Have you watched the news? Have you been feeding the food that is causing kidney failure? Decreased water consumption and uriniation are the first symptoms.

If her skin goes back down, and she is otherwise normal..eating, wet nose, etc. then you are probably worrying too much.

I rescued a Pom from a puppy mill, she was a Mom. At first I didn't think she was pooping either, but she too showed no signs of distress. I finally realized she was eating her poop while still warm :puke

I've had her for several years now, and she has quit that nasty habit.

Could yours be having a snack???

If it was my dog, I'd have her checked out....could she have eaten anything out of 'the ordinary' that could cause an obstruction???
