One of our somewhat distant neighbors was burning off his one pastures and it got away from him and burnt over 2000 acres barely missing us by one road.If nothing else we were spared by 1/2 mile but it sure was exciting to see airplanes and helicopters flying around and a bunch of local firetrucks and forest service bulldozers cutting fire breaks.
Anyway they contained it about a 1/2 mile from our farm so we were not in any great danger but it was kinda scary to think about. I hooked up the horse trailer in case we had to get Mego and Teevo out and made sure all the pets were protected in case it got to us. Loaded all our important papers in the truck and called Grace at work to tell her to stay at work and if I had to leave I would meet her at the store with the horses.
I figured I would take them down to Robin's if it had to be. Then the fire chief came by and told me they had contained it and we would not have to leave. Talk about a happy person you should have seen me. Horses and pets are safe and house won't burn down. Kind of a nice day after all.
