Those are very interesting looking horses...very Iberian.
I have a question...do they care what lead the horses are on in the gallop? It would be pretty awesome to see one do a flying lead change!

Don Pepe looks great doing lead changes!!!!!!

I have never seen these horses. Is the Galope, what we saw on the clip? A three beat gait? Or do they extend to a gallope (4 beat gait). From the still photos I've seen and that one short clip it looks like the want very collected canter and trot, is this true?
Can any one give me a simplified idea of what the class calls for? And what makes a horse "stand out" in a crowd?

I have a short clip of him in the Trote. I'll try to post it tomorrow.
But yes, a very collected Trote and Canter. In fact, at the PF Fiesta a few weeks ago, that horse almost trote'd in place like a fino horse. 8-) It was very cool to see. However, he is more extended in the class.
And I have noticed that each TyG horse has little different execution of the gait, just like the pasos. So some are "tighter" than others.

I'm not sure about the leads on the rail, but I do know they change leads when executing the 8's and serpantines at the show. 8-) Very cool to see.

They are expected to change leads in the eight and serpentine. Don't know if I have a video of one doing the eight. If I don't it's a great excuse to make one

LOL! Felix if I could get Springer to PROMISE not to have her foal until I came back I would be there! I'll just have to make sure I don't make that mistake again this year and not breed any for about a 3 week span around that time.
(I swear my Capuchino son does that in the field in short spurts when he is really excited. )

Oh, too cool! I can't wait to see their 8's!!!! I'll bet their awesome! And you know how some horses are trained to change leads every stride, or every 2 or 3 strides? Now THAT would be TOO COOL to see.

I think what Carol wanted to know is...does the horse has to be on the inside lead while on the rail, or does it matter if he is on the outside lead? (which would be incorrect in the show ring for most trotting horse breeds).

I was searching You Tube and found a video of them..sadly the judge is standing and blocking the lead change in the 8's, but not on the board.

It is very interesting to watch them...I was expecting a bigger collected canter. It is almost like a fino canter...if there were such a thing.

Like tha canter in a canter pirouette, with out the pirouette.

I think that on the rail they're supposed to be on the right lead too. Not sure about that though

Cool...thanks Lori.
Now I have to ask the same questions Sandy did on the other thread, do you know what they are judged on?
To tell the truth, I don't know all particulars, which is why I haven't commented on it so far. And I know if I try to say, I will say something incorrect.
But here goes...
They are judged at the Trote and Galope on the rail first. Then two boards, one at a trote and one at a galope.
Then normally, they have individual work offs on the 8's and Serpantines.
They are to trote on the first 8 and galope on the second. Then Trote on the first pass thru the cones and galope on the second pass.
I belive they look for basically the same things we do for the Pasos...consistency of gait, flexiblility and suppleness on the work offs, etc.
I'm sure head set and willingness of the horse are also a part of it.
I'll let Lori Perez or someone more experienced than myself break down the rest of what they are looking for.

Nice.
Funny how we get ingrained habits. I wince when I hear the trot down the board...I guess it's a habit from listening to a lot of boards! LOL

Cool vid! I realized the trot myself, bounce..lol I love the slow gallop, just neat to watch, I am sure hard to do takes lots of muscle...

According to the rule book, they're judged the same way as Paso finos. Based on their rythm, cadence, brio, temperament, quietness of croup, harmony, ability to hold their gait( stay in the same gait, so same rythm cadence etc).
