Rick and Christy Meyer will be hosting a Youth and Amateur Owner Clinic at Royal Oak Ranch, Troy, Illinois on May 5th & 6th. They are launching the new Youth Clinic Concept as established by the PFHA.

STANDARDIZATION CRITERIA
FOR YOUTH CLINICS

I. Horse Care
1. Daily feeding and nutrition
2. Basic signs of sickness
3. First Aid

II. Grooming and Tacking a horse
1. Brushing
2. Cleaning of feet
3. Saddling
4. Putting bridle on

III. Preparing for a trail ride
1. How long is the ride
2. Weather
3. Terrain of the area you plan to ride in.
4. How many people will be participating
5. How does your horse deal with other horses

IV. What is a Paso Fino Gait?
1. Define and show it.
2. Talk about the different divisions and explain the differences in the style and collection of the gait. (include Specialty classes and Bella Forma)
3. Explain and show horses in trot, pace and trocha.

V. Showing a Paso Fino
1. Reading the rulebook.
2. Understanding the attire to be used per division.
3. Horsemanship and showmanship.
4. Ring Etiquette.

VI. Equitation
1. Overall proper balance to ride a Paso Fino
2. Show Equitation (based on PFHA rules)
a) Equitation (go over rulebook and define steps in tests)
b) Horsemanship (suitability of horse and rider emphasis)
c) Silver Medal (explain difference with regular equitation)

VII. Judging a Paso Fino Horse
1. Teach them to evaluate a single horse to point out good and bad qualities of said horse.
2. Cover each division and use rulebook to evaluate the horse
3. Use a show class scenario to come up with decision.
