I HAVE to share with you the incredible portrait a lovely lady by the name of Beth Duke Hunold did of my stallion, Rojo Tejas.
One day last summer a couple of cars pulled into the yard and a whole bunch of ladies poured out. They were budding artists, and they came to photograph the horses in order to have subjects to paint. We welcomed them and gave them the tour of the ranch, and they snapped away with their cameras. We shared a wonderful lunch on our sprawling front porch and a couple of bottles of their homemade strawberry wine, and had a great time.
Away they went and I never heard another word until just lately when I was told to look at this website. As soon as the page opened, there was my Redman staring back at me! My heart simply jumped into my throat...she had captured him to the utmost, even down to the look in his eye and the tilt of one ear...

Here is her website and she is available to do portraits of your animals. Hope you enjoy browsing her site as much as I did!

very nice! VERY, is it gouache/dry brush opaque watercolour or just watercolor or watercolor acrylic mixed media? what ver it is it did catch the esscense and dynamic personality with the attentive look of your stallion. Red is a good subject no doubt why she picked him to rep her first homepage.
You can tell beth Duke this is from a fellow studio artist. Nice equestrian art and great technique.

Ha...I have no idea, sporthorse,...all I do know is that the original is 20" x 24" on gallery wrap and she has given me a most gracious price on it that I simply cannot refuse!
I guess the painting has already graced many of her shows, and will be in San Antonio, in fact, this weekend. She's asked me for the information on Red so that she can make a card to display next to the painting.
I knew you all would appreciate seeing it, and I will probably send her the link to this thread so that she can read all your nice comments herself!

Sporthorse, Beth informed me that the medium she uses is oil, but it is often confused for watercolor.
Hey, if you're an artist too...how's about some pics of your work??? :D

sorry I am new at equestrian art but here is a few.old ones I have more still in sketch books and on watercolor blocks but I have improved a little I think. I do like the one of Pocita( mixed media and of Leo grazing(colored pencil) too.
Your friends oils are done in a nice wash type not traditional or conventional way but I like and they are done very nicely.(even though I am formally , academically trained I also take licence and did so before my higher education)I know I am radical and do not mean to say your firend is but if she is I like her even more ;-)

I received this email from Beth:
I have a little surprise for you regarding your painting. It looks
like Red wins Ribbons in the arena and out. I entered his portrait
along with two other of my pieces in the Kingwood Art League Spring
Competion and won the first place ribbon and the People's Choice Award.
According to the Judge, I came real close to winning Best of Show
with Red.
This means he has automatically been qualified for the State
Competition in May.
Wow, easiest ribbons Red has ever won...

That is WAY COOL!!!!! :D :D :D
And..just think Carol...you didn't have to pay for a "stall", class fees..or nuthin!!!
I shudder to think how much ribbons truly "cost"...about $350.00 each here!

Thanks! For those of you who don't know Texas, Kingwood is an exclusive suburb of Houston...and I'm sure it was a pretty posh show. Not like out here in the sticks of Dale...
Another sideline...I first laid eyes on Red in Katy, TX...just adjacent to Kingwood....I bought him at the Pin Oaks Charity Horse Show in Katy. Betsy McHugh talked me into buying him instead of two mares. ;-)
That was in 2000.
It appears Texas loves their Rojo Tejas! :D
