Well folks...here is my newest project. I'm going to call him "Dos Equis" as he is the son of Dos Tambien de Mossy Oaks, and he has already had a couple "strikes" against him... in his short life of almost six years (he is a July 2001 model).
His dam is Cerrada del Pasador...anybody know of that mare? I understand she may be deceased...she was once owned by Valarie Brinkworth years ago.

Here is a head shot ...all photos were taken today...I will put a stick and a weigh tape on him tomorrow..I think he may be OVER 15HH..he is one big, boney pony...!

EDITED for spelling corrections..

He has offset knees and a lot of flare on those front feet...I will trim him tomorrow before I put a stick on him to get a height measurement...and a tape around him for an estimate on his weight...he is one skinny guy....

If he weren't hairy, he wouldn't exist! Poor boy...what is his story?

This horse was pretty much abandoned in Colorado by his former owner.
I had tried to get this horse last October. Now, I was just able to get him yesterday and save him from going to auction....
Here is a closer side shot...You can actually see & feel his L/S to pelvis attachment.....

He looks sweet, too. But sad. I can't wait to see his expression in a month.

Glad he found his way to someone before an auction. Can't wait to see him all filled out.

A left side shot.... I'd venture to say...he is between 250 and 300 lbs underweight... if that winter hair was not there...he'd look even worse.
If it is nice weather tomorrow, I will bathe him and take pics of him wet.
He could use a bath. Tomorrow I will trim him and worm him while I'm home to watch over him. I will put a measure stick on him after I trim him. His front feet are very "clubby" I will be fixing that....then, I will be checking his teeth and getting some vitals on him tomorrow when I'm off work.
Give me 90 days and I'll show you a different horse!

Nothing happened to his father...Dos Tambien is owned by a friend of mine here, Dos Tambien still stands at stud at Paso Finos de Vega and is owned by Albert Vega. Dos has one AWESOME daughter on the ground this year born about a month ago.

Does _not_ make for comfy bareback riding lol I think Troy's voice became an octive higher.

So what are the "strikes" against him other then current (fixable) condition?

He looks like he'll be nice once he gets some TLC.

Good save Terry. He's not as bad as some I've seen. I'm sure with a good spa day, a worming, and some groceries he'll be a NEW horse. Thanks for saving him....he looks awfully sweet.

Is he from the same place the two that Helene rescued came from?

I can understand people giving up and getting out of the horse business...but to just STOP feeding them??? Why not just have a Fire Sale?

When I rescued Buddy it was the same story, but you could count his ribs and vertebre from 30 feet away.

So sad...and they are the greatest creatures on earth.

No, this fellow didn't come from the same place as the two I got. He had it a bit better, I think. He and Dream have the same sire.
Terry, he looks worse than when I saw him last time. We didn't get close to him then, but he looked better and just like his sire. He looks pitiful now....This is a fairly tall Paso. I am so glad you have him now, Terry. He didn't get the attention there that he needed and will now get.

I too have seen worse..but know from past projects you have shown us he will be a totally different horse in a few eeks
I have a question about what you said about his hooves .You say they are 'clubby' Now I know these pics are not the best to judge from but just from that last side view it looks as if that may just be his natural angle.I have a horse here who is that straight/upright and we had to GET him there to be comfortable.Could you do before and after shots of his trims and show me what the differences are? I am still trying to train my eyes for the more subtle things..There are so many things I have never worked in the right environment to really be taught some of it..

Yep...I will get more pics. I'm headed out to groom and trim him now.
Once I get some of the winter hair off...the ribs will become very apparent....

Be back later today if possible...

OOPS! not JF ...but Sheri!....I think you are thinking of this horse....he was my "worst case"

WOW he looks awsome..and look at that mane too....body really has filled out.

Terry Wallace

Yes...Helene..he is worse...every rib protrudes...if it warms up, I will bathe him....his hair coat is like rough wheat! LOTS of dried out winter hair concealing his ribs....

ok that worst case horse (egads how can ya do that to someting so pretty ..not to mention living.. ) goes to show that mane length does not always correlate with good health huh...
