for some reason, i can't get into the General chit/chat this morning? everytime i try to open it, my norton antivirus blocks it and throws up an error message that says

norton internet worm protection has blocked an intrusion attempt.

when i click on the norton box, it gives me the message

BD blade runner
intruder: local host (5400)
risk level: high
protocal TCP
attacked IP: local host
attacked port: 1600

Help!

Do you use a dial up accelerator?

I went and checked it when you posted this Dana...no problem and I have Norton also.

Where is your security set on your computer? If it is very high, you'll get those messages when a page tries to send a cookie. But, I have NO IDEA why one page here would do it and not another.

Yes, i do have a dial up accelerator. have had it about a month now. do you think that could be the problem? Ughh!

Yes, I do think that may be it. If you can do a search for "BD Blade Runner" and actually open pages with info regarding the worm...you don't have the worm. Likely what is happening is...your accelerator is opening the chat in the 5400 port, and that is a red flag for Norton, regarding the worm...that's what port the worm usually enters through. You might try opening the chat, closing all other windows, then refreshing the chat window ( hit F5 at the top of your keyboard), then you can open other windows. If that doesn't work...call your ISP provider and tell them what is going on, and ask them how to fix it...I imagine they've had the problem with other people, so they should have an fix for you.

Might also try to update your Java application, if you haven't lately. Good luck. :-?

I agree Sheri. I hate this stuff. Everytime you upgrade anything you spend days running into and fixing all the glitches it leaves in every other program. I feel lucky I only have two 'problems' right now, the lock up with Photo-Shop and I can no longer paste in Word (definately makes writing hard).

I hate updates.

I'm sorry, I misunderstood...but the "fix" is the same. It's trying to open in port 5400, and that is the red flag for Norton. You can open it, and try to refresh, or call the ISP provider. I've got McAfee...and it will allow you to "ignore" a warning "this one time"...if you have that option, you can select it...but don't turn it off full time.

I agree on updates...if it ain't broke don't fix it!

Whew! (wiping sweat from brow)

Thanks, Kerry! that was the trick! disconnected the accelerator and just ran on dial up and it worked fine. now i just have to find the time to spend on the phone to get it permanently fixed.
