I was doing research recently for a USEF article and found info it seemed many didn't know especially a timeline for USEF and PFHA.
In 1977 (first year I joined PFOBA and showed too), AHSA met with PFOBA and APF/IPFS to develop a breed discipline for the Paso fino.
AHSA does not like when there is more then one breed organization, and wanted a unity of organizations to represent the Paso Fino breed.
In 1997, AHSA gave the Paso fino breed recognition as a breed within their organization on a provisional basis for 2-3 years to work out a solution.
The 1978 show year ('78-'79), was the first year AHSA included the Paso Fino rules in the AHSA rulebook. This first year AHSA encouraged to get Paso Fino classes in as many all-breed shows as possible, but not hold any PFOBA/IPFS - AHSA Shows. I believe the first show was possibly the Piedmont Oak Ridge, NC Easter Monday All-Breed Show (I was there showing!). There would be no AHSA Horse of the Year award this first year.
The first competition year with AHSA/PFOBA Shows was 1979.
The first AHSA Horse of The Year award in 1979 was:
Clue#1: Female
Clue#2: Well Endowed (not meaning money)
New Clue #3: A famous artist... (now that will really give it away)
This is so easy you old-timer guys............you will knock yourself on the side of your head over and over when you realize what horse it is. You are thinking about it way too hard!!!!
