I was doing research recently for a USEF article and found info it seemed many didn't know especially a timeline for USEF and PFHA.

In 1977 (first year I joined PFOBA and showed too), AHSA met with PFOBA and APF/IPFS to develop a breed discipline for the Paso fino.

AHSA does not like when there is more then one breed organization, and wanted a unity of organizations to represent the Paso Fino breed.

In 1997, AHSA gave the Paso fino breed recognition as a breed within their organization on a provisional basis for 2-3 years to work out a solution.

The 1978 show year ('78-'79), was the first year AHSA included the Paso Fino rules in the AHSA rulebook. This first year AHSA encouraged to get Paso Fino classes in as many all-breed shows as possible, but not hold any PFOBA/IPFS - AHSA Shows. I believe the first show was possibly the Piedmont Oak Ridge, NC Easter Monday All-Breed Show (I was there showing!). There would be no AHSA Horse of the Year award this first year.

The first competition year with AHSA/PFOBA Shows was 1979.

The first AHSA Horse of The Year award in 1979 was:

Clue#1: Female

Clue#2: Well Endowed (not meaning money)

New Clue #3: A famous artist... (now that will really give it away)

This is so easy you old-timer guys............you will knock yourself on the side of your head over and over when you realize what horse it is. You are thinking about it way too hard!!!!

I won !!!

:smilieparty

This is how I figured it out-
When you mentioned it was "Que Tal" trophy, I thought it was a que tal horse that won it.
For those of you that missed the start of this, please see:
http://americanpasofinos.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12880&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15

So I went to http://www.pasoregistry.com/db/SearchStart.asp
and I entered %que tal in "Partial Name of Horse"

I looked at the names and nothing jumped out at me.
Then I hit NEXT and once I saw Dahae que tal, I thought OMG Dali Sin Par!

I remember her so well. I think she was shown in Performance and Pleasure. The first time I saw her, I didn't think much of this brown and white pinto. Her head was not set and her corto didn't seem all that collected. She did have a nice largo.

But then I noticed she kept winning and winning. So, I paid a little more attention and that's when I discovered her secret:
a. Dali had a very light and "airy-like" gait (flowing).
b. Dali was always consistent and willing.

This mare was unbeatable and she was taken around to all the shows. Robin Ratliff rode her in the ring and her Mom, Henrietta, rode Dali's sire El Pastor in costume.

Okay Lynn, what did I win?

I found what PT may want instead of a horse...almost as good.

I got two for Easter candy instead of the traditional easter eggs and candy. One lasted a day, and the other I gave to a tall cowboy friend. He's got one chunk gone out of his. Its got 5.4 oz of milk chocolate, nuts, and other ingredients.

yum yum

Okay, I'll tell what the fine print says on the label:

We don't claim eating it will make you a COWBOY -- but, we're hoping you feel as though you're riding the trail, breathing that refreshing air and feeling the same freedom and sense of adventure the COWBOY felt as he pioneered the West.
contains toffee and livered almonds in addition to rich milk chocolate.

kinda sounds like they were/are riding a Paso fino!

Congrats PT for your wisdom and on your acute research methods, and to Dali Sin Par for being the first AHSA Paso Fino Horse of The Year!
