If we're really lucky we get a 'Once in a Lifetime' horse. I must be VERY lucky, because I've had two. Tina died at the ripe old age of 33. But Zar is very much still with us and still a beautiful ambassador for the breed. We're off on a trail ride (her favorite) today to celebrate.

Happy Birthday pretty girl (and Thanks Stella, for breeding her)

I was just thinking, she's got to be one of the most famous mares...if not THE most famous, on this board... ;-)

Speaking of your lovely Zar . . . is she still going to be bred this spring? You need a new little filly.

Thanks guys....it's hard to describe how much I love this horse, and how much she has taught me about horses.

Today we did flying lead changes at liberty...our first! I was SOOO impressed with her!!! We also did falling leaves at liberty..and I've never even heard of anyone doing that before.

She is just TOO cool for words!!!

Thank you all!

(ps...hoping to AI next month. She's in heat now, so am counting days. Can't breed in April, March is no time for foals here. Wish us luck this year! It's her last/only chance)

I want video of the flying lead changes and falling leaves (what's that?) at liberty!!!!

Who are you breeding her to?

I'm breeding her to Contratista. Already have a name for the foal...Zartista! :-) Should be a Bella Forma champion and have an AWSOME shoulder!!!

Falling leaves are where you step back, disengage the hips and draw the horse to you, as they come in you send them out the other direction, step back, disengage the hips, draw them to you and send them again. If you are on line, you do this while walking, so it looks like leaves falling from a tree in front of you.

The flying lead change is kind of the same thing except at the canter, you step back, disengage the hips, draw the horse in and send them out again the other direction.

Oh, I used to do that with my mare Sage! Didn't realize I was kinda doing Parelli with her! I always free lunged her and she was great!
