Hello All!!!!

Thanks so very much for the warm outpouring here for my best buddy! He came home late last night...spent the first couple hours letting all the girls know the man was back on the block. He's in open gate stall w/roof, in the pasture...so he can get kissed but can't run around heathen like..which is what he wants, but since his entire abdomen was opened..he can't...he's not so happy about that either.

Got him out to eat some grass and handwalk this morning early. He is back to the mule-like persona I so love. I did not hand walk him, I managed...barely to apply enough drag (thank goodness I'm heavier than I used to be) to keep him from taking off..he walked...slow trotted around the yard for 15 mins..then I had to get hubby to help me get him back in his stall.

Though his surgeon is still careful to caution me that adhesions are still a concern...reducing chance everyday...but chance none the less. Still...I'm so glad I gave my Pete the chance...I knew his App-iness would get him through. :D
I am over joyed! But exhausted.

Here's him Easter Sunday Night I don't know if you can see how swollen or not...but he looks miserable...

Here's his belly and his clean crisp stall Friday..

His unhappy face in stall Friday...for real...he hates stalls...he's a pasture horse by insistance...just not right now...poor boy.

And here's him this morning post dragging his sweet lovely broke owner...

A much less swollen Petey...

Another funny note:

The girl in the admit office yesterday when I went to pick him up said "It's so nice to have a horse with a easy name...so many of these have names I have no idea how to pronounce" I just giggled...my dirty...rank...mean-aggressive but totally lovable bought for $375 21 years ago...must have seemed alot out of place there.

Thanks Everyone!

And...here's a gray that was in the paddock in the back 40 where I had to park to visit...he was showing off but I had to wait until he was still to snap these...just a pretty horse..no idea other than pretty. I don't think TB though (majority at Rood and Riddle facility are TB racehorses or breeding stock)

 Carol N...I'll post the pictures of the front yard in a few days....it'll have two mud tracks in VERY irregular patterns all dug into it....bad horse.

I know...I know you should not let your horse drag you....well...he lost even more weight this week...but he's still way too strong for me to stop. Yes...normally he is perfectly well mannered when led...but cooping him up for over a week...he can't understand "For your own good" or maybe thats what he's saying to me as I am begging and pleading for him to walk...easy...Pete DANGIT walk....maybe he's thinking, "Aw Britz...it's for your own good  "

I have never kept him stalled longer than a few days. When we showed, I think my limit was like 3 days...Hoosier Horse Fair was a little longer but that's another Bad Pete story entirely...anyway...on the 3rd day of a 3 day show he was trying his best to tear stall down...

It will be real interesting to see what happens now.

Vicki...I feel like I have been a hamster on a wheel for months, and this week...well...I hope to avoid one like it for a years...I hope I hope.

Awwwww shucks you guys/gals are the best! I'm so glad we had the help of my APF friends...really...it truly helped at least me, to stay connected to this circle!

I'll keep you updated...last evening...I finally gave up and went and got a lunge rope...I just got tired of flying through the air on the head of a horse...and my hands are raw. Lunging doesn't work any better...big jerk's just got WAY too much energy. Wish I had a deep pond or a swimming pool.

Anybody got an suggestions on how to make him walk? I hate to...but I may see if a chain will help...he's just been through so much...but he has to excercise slowly...and he's just not getting that.

His belly wrap comes off tomorrow which is cool because I'm dying to groom him up better.

Well if he wouldnt fight them - I would say grazing hobbles, but only if he doesnt hate them!!! add another person to the line for more weight??? :D

have you got a leadrope with a stud chain on it, Britz? helps alot to get a horses attention when run under the chin. keeps from marking up the nose too. Good Luck!

Thanks for quick suggestions! Uh...added person would work maybe but not readily available...but maybe when it is I'll try it. Grazing hobbles...he's hobble broke fine...but his head isn't right at this point in time. Ordinarily he would never drag me around and checks on lead to get his attention would make him good boy. Right now he's been locked up which he thinks is awful, and all his previously expelled energy is building...these are just minor explosions...the dragging....I'm afraid very soon it will get worse.

He's 22, and has never spent very long penned up at all. He wants to be loose 24/7. He is just not too removed from wild horse desire.

I guess I may have to try chain Dana...I just didn't want to really. I have to use a chain for the farrier...22 years later...so I guess it may be required. Or...I may just get some heavy leather gloves and let him drag me.

All this aside...I'm actually over joyed to be dealing with this issue because it means my old friend is back...as good as ever! He can be a jerk all he wants. I'm just glad to have his mug around (which he is very tired of me smooching on but oh well he's just gonna have to deal because I'm gonna smooch him more now...)
