Replacing both...about $5K.

What the insurance paid you...about $800.

I'd for SURE be calling junk yards. I'll bet you can find some 'used' ones and paint them for $500.

Out comes the lurker again!
Can you tell me how in the world you had 2 vehicles wrecked and had the cheque cut the same day???? Did they require you to get estimates? The only reason I am asking is that we have been fighting with Allstate for a month (today was one month) over our horse trailer. The accident was not our fault - the other guy was charged with careless driving. The trailer is a write-off but it has dragged on since March 17 and we are finally supposed to be receiving the cheque (in the amount we insisted on) tomorrow! Allstate sucks!

Allstate sucks....

We're with State Farm now. My husband wrecked my van before Christmas. Called the insurance, they told us to take it to their local 'prefered provider' for an estimate. Would have cut check and paid for fix right then (the next day), but decided to total it. We kept it and paid the difference to get it fixed.

Allstate fixed the cosmetic damage to our truck which happened in the same accident. I think it came to about $6000. The trailer was a '97 Jamco, 4 horse with weekend package. I live in Ocala, FL which (as the sign says) is the "Horse Capital of the World"! The Allstate Adjuster (from Ocala) told us he had no idea of the value of any horse trailers! We had to get 2 estimates for repair. My hubby told him there was no use because the frame was bent! We still had to take it sideways, down the road on 3 wheels to 2 repair shops so they could tell him the frame was bent and the trailer was not repairable!!!! We then had to contact Jamco factory (in Canada) to get an estimate on putting a new frame under it! (give me strength!) After all that, they decided to write it off. Then came the painful part - having them figure out the value. The trailer was insured for $25,000. - they offered us $15,000. We put in an official complaint and the fooled around until yesterday when my hubby told them we would get in touch with the Ombudsman and/or a lawyer. They then came up with the idea of issuing a cheque for $25,000 plus tax! Amazing ain't it? We will be switching insurance companies as soon as we get the cheque cashed and buy a new trailer.

When I got in an accident, other drivers fault....she had State Farm and they were excellent. I got my car fixed very quickly, then the guy that fixed it said State Farm gave him more than it costs to fix, so he gave me a $200 check back. He was a very honest mechanic.

Sometimes what state you are in matters more than what insurance company you are with. Different states have different laws. My daughter was in an accident in CT. She was a passanger in her roomate's car. Roomate is from NJ. They were hit from behind by a CT driver. The emts insisted on taking all the girls to the hospital, where after sitting for 3 hours in the emergency room, my daughter was checked out by an intern and given a perscription for motrin (she never filled). This generated a $1,200 hospital bill and 3 months of aggrevation to get paid. Keep in mind, my daughter was a passenger in the car that was NOT at fault. But laws from 3 different states were involved and 4 different insurance companys (3 auto, 1 health) It took MY auto insurance lady to sort it all out. She told me that she wouldn't live in CT for no other reason than their auto insurance laws are nuts. In the end, my health insurance paid the hospital and the CT auto insurance co "settled" with me for the $50 co-pay for $250 (I think I won). But it was crazy. And we wonder why insurance rates are so high.

So, is that a TOTAL of $2800 or a total of $3850?

A word about State Farm:

Despite record profits (even with Katrina damages), State Farm has decided to not issue any new home owners policies in the state of Mississippi.
This after they refused to pay numerous claims and eventually were taken to court and STILL made record profits.

I wonder how much profit is enough?

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack the thread.

it isn't just State Farm...although they seem to be the ones getting the most press.
They are our insurance, and although we didn't get a lot for our claims, they were prompt. And they also quickly sent out an appraiser to look at our front porch that was falling down due to Katrina damage. This was 18 months after the storm. They gave us the full amount for the repairs, which was substantial. Contractors are costing a fortune here now.
