Yes, I heard. The weather forecaster said it will reach us here in Colorado in a few days. She said this would be a major storm....Bummer!

That big weather system came up here and knocked out power to a significant area around here ... including my place.
We had no power (and therefore no heat) from 4 a.m. 'til 9 p.m. and there are areas that are still in the dark (and cold)! Temperature today was +1C and tonight it will be -1C, just around freezing, so it's not all THAT bad, I guess.
When I spoke with someone from the electrification association, he told me that SIXTEEN poles came down along the highway because of the weight of the wet snow and ice on the lines! And, of course, a bunch came down in other areas as well.
Because it was going to be too cold in our house, we decided to go to an auction instead. Bought ourselves a 160 horse tractor for cheap! Now THAT'S how to spend a dreary day! *grin*

Holy cow! Never mind sixteen power poles down! We have 122 of them down ... all within a 20 mile radius of my place! Fortunately for me, they got my power back up and running. There are folks here who will be without power and heat for up to 4 days ... with temperatures sitting around the freezing mark!

Well Jane...now you understand what happened in Colorado...and how. But, it happens so rarely that many/most weren't prepared with back-up generators. When such large areas are affected, it takes a long time to repair it all.
We've had an off/on good weekend...last few hours are this morning and then a major RAIN storm coming in from the coast. It'll be wet (we need that) but at least the COLD will stay up yonder where it belongs!!

Not cold in THIS "up yonder" now. We're soaring up to +50F today. Hooray!
Gonna rain tomorrow though. *sigh*
