We are investigating fencing. Any thoughts?

What is the advantage of three rail White PVC fencing or Four Rail White PVC fencing?

My wife is wanting to fence the perimeter of the property with four rail white PVC fencing and then three rails for the pastures.

Your thoughts.

Thank you for your input.

I have the front of my yard and pastures fenced with 3-rail PVC fence. It is beautiful, maintence free, washes itself white again with every rain storm. BUT, if a horse busts threw it, it is JUST has jagged as wood would be.

I ran electric along the inside of the top and bottom rails to keep the horses from leaning on the fence and breaking it. Very easy to do since the fence posts are their own insulators, just a small eye to run the wire threw. You can use low voltage solor chargers and it doesn't cost a dime to run.

It also will not stay white (or wash itself as Carol says) after awhile Maybe depends on the climate? It will get black 'mold' for lack of a better description if its anywhere near trees-also near trees it will grow lichens or green stains in a few years .(when the boss got married in 98 we had to scrub white fence all around the main house. We used Clorox..we tried Tilex..nothing took it all off and now 9 years later it doesnt look like we ever touched it)I have some here at the farm that was put up probably 20 yrs ago and yes it is brittle and jagged when it breaks We just replaced some about 3 years ago and it is now made with suppport throughout the whole board every few inches It no longer is one long open piece. ( but the new stuff even already is getting the 'black stuff 'on it but it does set in a wooded area) I also agree to use at least one hot wire .

mine stays white, but I have nothing that would turn it !
I love it.
best thing I ever bought, this is it after 4 years.
only thing it did was settle, so some posts are not where we put them.

It must be the climate. Most of mine is 10 years old and nice, brite, white. No mold...but then we have 276 days of sunshine a year! Not much mold anywhere the sun hits.

Gary put in his PVC around 15 years ago. It still looks great. In the winter is will crack and shatter if kicked. We had a hot wire along the top and another at the bottom (more to keep dogs out) The PVC gates are light but you have to watch them in the high wind popping open, we used a latch with a pin.

Now down in Florida it would turn green in the shade. One guy burned his pasture and ended up melting his fence!

I have white fence envy. We couldn't afford it. But, wow, it looks so nice!

I think a ranch has that too, it looks like the pic Erin posted and I know it's some plastic material. It looks great, stays white, lasts long too.

Here in western ky, mold is a problem for everyone with those fences. They dont have to be under trees either. One horse farm I know of had their whole fence replaced because the mold.
