View Full Version : NY PR Parade Update 6/6: FINAL RIDER/WALKER LIST
Jose Rubero
05-06-2007, 03:24 PM
OK, guys, tomorrow afternoon, I will fax to the Parade comittee our final list of riders and walkers (assist with horses, photos/interviews, trailer transport, etc) with name, address, phone#s, for each rider & each walker via PM to swaite.
If you've already given that info simply include any questions with subject "Final confirmation".
This list is crucial to obatin a security wristband, without it you will not be allowed access to the parade staging area or route.
If you will require boarding in NY please highlight that in your PM.
So far, only Lori's group from FL, is requiring boarding.
ARE YOU READY TO RUMBLE ???? !!!!!!

OK guys, the participant roster was faxed to the Parade Committee. We should be receiving the trailer parking permits as well as the security wristbands soon.
I'm asking anyone participating to inform your local newspapers as to what you're doing. Please describe the expected experience to the reporters. Please review previous posts/photos for details. Somehow get yourself (even walkers) in a photo for the reporter.... they prefer to take their own originals, some may take your photos. One approach may be to tell the reporter that "you're representing your local town in the National Puerto Rican Parade, how you're doing so, etc."
This National Puerto Rican Day Parade has been involved with many TV/movie situations... Seinfeld (sp?-Cramer messing the PR flag)Sopranos (the PR girlfriend dumping Soprano son during/at the Parade), the news (even bad news /Central Park '98), etc. It is well documented.... mainstream America is fully aware of this Parade.....SO, Take advantage of this Parade to promote our breed!
You may even have the reporter call me for details 413-847-0301.

Anyone still interested in coming along either as rider/walker please PM swaite with name ,add, phone#s...
We were able to get some extra wristbands/permits..
So far it looks like we may bave up to 20 Pasos, 7 from FL. The 20 may change though.
dcancel, please confirm with your friends if they're still interested!
Again, Parade starts at 11am, our entry is ESTIMATED to be between 12n-1p. Get there early (Staging Area 48th St, between 5th & Madison), get horse ready, park trailers on 5th Ave (enter on 96th St), drivers get cab back to staging area, route time estimate-2 hrs.
I don't recall mentioning it before.....this is the Parade's 50th Anniversary . They have at least twice as many participants as least year! We're fortunate to be near the beginning.
Lori's group is all set with NY boarding. Thanks to those who helped.
We have a Brooklyn farm (200+ acres) that is attempting to reschedule next year's hunter/jumper competitions so they could accomodate ALL of us. Meaning the FL group and the NE group can "hang out" for a couple of days in NY, or ride the 200 acres.

OK guys we expect the security wristbands and parking permits this week. We will mail them immediately.
Lori, when are you guys leaving FL? If I receive the bands/permits near the end of this week I don't want you to miss them if you're on the road. Or, I could mail them to your NY boarding place.

I have a question about what the walkers should wear??
So far the only thing I am sure I'm wearing is my paso fino hat. Then I'm thinking of wearing black cropped pants and white shirt. But then I was wondering if we should wear something more patriotic to the PR culture/flag?? Jose and Sue, do you have any preferences? As a walker, I thought we should sort of blend into the background. Then I was wondering if all the walkers want to be color coordinating with each other or anything??
Jose Rubero

Wear anything you like, prefer no jeans, it's going to be hot, bring water... maybe, due to the 40 NY blocks... sneakers.
Re the PR flag/cultural thing... it's all up to you. This is definitely an individual event.... that also goes for the riders.... so dress accordingly. Some may dress up in a show outfit, others made ride in everyday clothes (like I do), others may dress very flashy.
Any PR flags displayed can't be altered. Their are many PR flags sold with logos that include fighting roosters, a Paso Fino, or something else that represents PR. Only actual flags can be displayed.
If anyone is considering for next year.... Keep in mind that once this event is over it will be described ALL OVER AGAIN, with tons of pictures, videos, poems, inspiring stories, on Showtime, NBC, WAPA-TV PR, etc.
Plan for next year or maybe 2 years from now, just plan it.
19 DAYS TO THE PASO FINO PILGRIMAGE!

Meeting place?? Well veryone from NY,CT and MA will be meeting:
1) Holyoke MA, Nuestras Raices Farm (MA & upsate NY group)
2) Rt 95 CT, same place as last year-just off highway (MA, NY, and CT group)
Time? very very early :). We should be leaving CT meeting area earlier than 7am.
In CT we will load any single horses onto larger trailers.... so as to limit the actual # of trailers into Manhattan.
Lori's FL group will be driving directly from Hurleyvill NY.
Re rider/walker list? Left it home, will post later.

The wrist bands say 48th street on them so that must be where our group enters the parade. I think we usually arrive around 9 am or so.

I just faxed the following to WNYW. They receive information from us every year ahead of time with coverage only during the parade route. It appears they want more.
FAX:
I received a phone call from a “Dave” (Viewer’s Services) asking me to fax information regarding our group’s participation in The Parade. He also gave me “Isara’s” (sp?) phone number XXXXXXXXX. I left a message on her voice mail.
We’re really excited about the prospect of appearing in WNYW’s coverage of The Parade. We have been riding in this Parade and many others since 2000. We firmly believe the dramatic rise in the number of viewers (live and on TV) is due to the participation of our group -The Paso Fino Horses.
The Paso Fino was selected by the Conquistadores as the horse of choice to explore the New World due to its completely smooth ride. The Paso Fino has Dominican, Columbian, American and of course Puerto Rican bloodlines. It is Puerto Rico’s National Horse, our pride….. Our ultimate sport. It’s evenly sequenced lateral gait offers the rider the smoothest ride in the world. It is the only chiropractor recommended horse.
Our impact in The Parade? The roars are overwhelming as we approach each block. The cameras are all glued on us. I can tell you a lot more. Please call me. I’m sorry to sound overly confident with the following comment…..
“We are more popular than J-Lo, Marc Anthony or Daddy Yankee could ever be!”
I guarantee you a detailed coverage will benefit WNYW Fox 5.

My stomach just got butterflies.....the excitement is overwhelming......I just got a flashback of how tremendous this event is. You only live once, and this should be on your "Top 5 Things to Do Before You Die" list......RIDE your Paso Fino down 5th Avenue amongst 3 million crazed people. 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)
PLEASURE PASOFINO

1st MEET, 24 Jones Ferry Rd, Holyoke,MA (La Finca-Nuestras Raices).
I'm thinking more like 6am, others suggested 7am.
Once in CT, we will make 2 stops where other trailers will join us. The trailers will be loaded & ready to immediately continue with us back on the highway.
We'll make a pit stop in CT nearing NY, then shoot into Manhattan with a caravan of 5-6 trailers!
