I arrived home this weekend to play with all my new toys. 8-)

First order of business......check out the Trote y Galope horse we traded Echo for.
Hopefully cowboyed is getting to know him and they are getting along well.

Since I call Tequila, "T", I figured Tornado could be T2. ;-) or T-Dos

Here is the handsome guy now....

Here is a little video of us on our first ride
http://www.onetruemedia.com/shared?p=2b56a8b68b282b4bd8c79c&skin_id=0&utm_source=otm&utm_medium=text_url

We were sorta testing each other on our first ride. Me thinks he would have liked to have intimiadated me. But it didn't work. He still had to work. But after we decided who was in charge of the ride, he worked very nice for me.

After the initial test ride, we took him and Candee out on the trails for a ride. He did very well and seemed to get even tighter in his gaits as we went along. He is not afraid or shy of anything on the trails. The cows were no problem, and he got a drink from the wind mill tubs without fuss.

Also, I must mention that this was my first ride in my new Timberline saddle..... :love

It feels like it was made especially for my hiney......Oh right...it was.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE it.

Be back later to tell about the rest of my play things. Gotta test out the saddle on Tequila. And maybe we will test out Lucero this weekend too. 8-)

lori, tornado looks right at home down there! remember, i told you he really likes women. looks like he did very well for you!
as for not being bothered by anything on the trail, i've done a couple of 25 mile LDs and a 2 day 40 mile CTR with him, not to mention all the trail time while training for those rides. and dont worry about cows either. you can herd cows with him. he knows what to do.

he doesnt really like the cowboy mounted shooting all that well, but he tolerates it. but you probably wont be doing any of that with him!

Mom got brave enough to try him out this afternoon and did very well. However, I don't think her pants were ideal for staying secure in the saddle. :-? She blamed my slick new saddle. ;-)

He looks like fun!

I have never seen a TyG in person. Is the TyG a breed, or is that what they do, or both?

The video's were not clear enough for me to tell, so I'll have to ask. Do they do a true two beat trot? Is the Galope a 3 beat gait (like a canter) or a 4 beat gait like a gallop?

Where can I see them in person?

Congratulations! He does look like fun, and like cookies & cream ice cream.

A breed and what they do a Trote and a Galope, trot and gallop. Trote is 2 beat, galope is 3 beat

He is a beautiful horse Lori, Congratulations. I am still confused though. Are TyG horses a type of Paso Fino or a completely seperate breed? Could a "regular" paso be trained as a TyG horse? or is it the breeding?

pnalley
05-13-2007, 02:36 AM
Good question Terri.

So far I know the TyG (what we call trot & canter)

Is the breed named TyG?

PLEASURE PASOFINO
05-13-2007, 03:33 AM
Terri, the Paso Horses, includes not only Paso Finos but other gaited horses that share many common elements such as origin, smoothness, SAME TRAINING TECHNIQUES, brio and equitation.

These includes the 3 Colombian Diagonal Paso horse breeds, COLLECTED TROTE GALOPE, PURE TROCHA and TROCHA AND COLLECTED GALOPE, like PASO FINOS, each one of thesebreeds has a completely NATURAL and SMOOTH GAIT from the day the horse is born.

Perfect example of SAME RIDING TECHNIQUES, Ms. Lori Ford and PasoMOM looked like PRO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :not worthy

Thank you Caliber. So, a TyG horse is a breed in and of it self, like a Peruvian Paso is, but they are all considered Paso Horses?

Trote y Galope and Trocha horses have Paso Fino blood in them, such as Don Danilo and Bochica.
These stallions were not pure Paso Fino (part Lusitano).
Some of their Get either did not gait or could not maintain the gait.

PEACE !!!!!! but TERRI this is the thing:

PERU is not the same place of ORIGIN as COLOMBIA, they are both two different countries......

If you where born in the USA, although you share the same language as ENGLAND!!!!! "CANT COMPARED", two different countries with similar cultures BUT INDEED VERY DIFFERENT..........

Are you getting the PICTURE!!!!!!!!!!! PEACE!!!!!!!!

WOW!!! nice videos, lori! you will definitely be ready for the exhibition at spectrum if you keep riding like that. Tornado is very much at home in the show arena and under the spot light. when i ride him in parades, he starts dancing when he hears the music. I did a horse dancing event with him at green cove springs a couple of years ago. it was timed, and choreographed. needless to say the crowd went wild.

in the video, lori mostly rides tornado in the "galope", but go back and look again, and you will see that she also has him in the trote at times. the trote is a diagonal, two beat gait (trot), but the horse doesnt do a floating trot like other trotting breeds. instead, two feet are up(way up, i might add, just look at the knee action) and two feet are down. when the two feet are down, those legs are usually near the vertical, which makes the stride very smooth, eliminating the need to post. also, the action is so rapid fire, that you would have difficulty posting, even if you wanted to.

For those of you who dont know, or may be a bit confused about Trote y Galope (trot and gallop) horses, i will explain a little more. The horses are bred in colombia. the bloodlines are similar to what we call paso fino horses. In colombia, the terminology is a bit different. here in the states, we would call the different types or breeds, paso fino, trote y galope, trocha y galope, etc., whereas in colombia, they refer to all of these horses as paso horses or paso colombiano. from this basic term, the horses are further described and registered based on their modality, or way of going, i.e., paso fino, trote y galope, trocha, etc.

the trote y galope horses and trocha horses are specifically and purposefully bred, and in most cases are not intermingled with what we americans would call a pure bred paso fino horse.

so, a trote y galope horse like tornado is a different breed of horse, though some of the ancestry is similar to the paso fino. the trote y galope was not just developed in the last few years. it has taken many years of selective breeding to create these horses. i also made this statement in another thread, i consider the breeding a well kept secret. if it was easy to cross breed and get trote y galope, there would be a lot more of them.

someone asked if you can train a "regular" paso fino to do the trote y galope. no, you cant. no more so than you can train a quarterhorse to do a paso fino gait.

Ed, thatnks for the explaination. My computer the video was poor quality, I although I thought he was trotting, I wasn't absolutly sure. And I do have issues with spanish/english translation.I would have though Galope would be what we gall gallop (4 beat)

Hey Cowboy Ed....got anymore you want to trade :D

So Lori, who takes care of all of your "toys" at your parents ranch?

Terri
05-14-2007, 01:12 AM
Thank you Ed, that was informative.

Caliber, I understand the country of origin is different, but I didn't think that was what makes Peruvians a different breed? Columbia is a different country than Puerto Rico, yet we consider Paso Finos from both countries the same breed. Or do we? :confused I know Peruvians are a different breed, different gait, different blood lines, different registry...etc. So I was just asking if the TyG horses where considered Paso finos, just a different type or a completely different breed. I guess the correct answer is a completely different breed, but with similar origins????

My first reply is....WHEN I GROW UP I WANT TO BE LORI!

Congrats Girl on getting it done! He looks marvelous!

My second reply along different lines is I need to post another thread about the TyG/Trocha/Fino confusion among other questions. I am hoping for some input from CindyG, and Candice, and Calibur hopefully and I would love further input from others Too!

And hopefully lots of ?'s I ask will be answered for others. I'll put it under Paso Chit Chat but Lori feel free to put me where ever...I just want to structure questions regarding the modalities etc

For you...Lori...I am so very jealous...but proud as punch too! Because you look glorious there on him! We've had you as an ambassador extrordinaire for the finos, hopefully T2 realizes his place as ambassador (he seems to).

Soooo.... I see a thread saying T2 is here....and I'm thinking..."T2"... Terminator 2..."horse"? Just what kinda pony has Lori gotten herself into?

AND THEN.... I see it is Ed's T&G horsie! ALL IS WELL !

You look great on that horse Lori....!

Now...you KNOW I gotta ask this..... Will you let his mane grow out...or is it required to be roached to show in T&G classes? It would look really cool about 3 inches long....standing straight up... like Roman horses on ancient Roman artwork..... :D
