I visited my friend's and took some picture of "Valentino", dam is an El Mejor daughter and sire is - now 27 (I think) year old- Contratista.
Colt is about 10 days old.

What a breath taking baby!! And mom is certainly no slouch, either.
Wonder where the dilute for the mane and tail color came from. :-?

Cream gene from the buckskin Dam.
Since the baby is palomino, from a buckskin and a bay, it appears both sire/dam were heterozygous for extension (Ee) and both gave the foal their "e", resulting in a red-based foal. Dam gave the cream gene and red-based foal became palomino.
Sire: EeA_crcr
Dam: EeA_Crcr
Foal: ee__Crcr (foal probably carries an A, but cannot tell on a red-based foal without DNA testing)

Thanks, Heidi! That makes sense.
Does Contratista throw a lot of red base babies?
I was just looking at the color calculator, and there is only a 12.50% of palomino if both parents have a red factor. This baby is certainly against the odds! What a jewel!

Look up a couple of messages, Terry.
What's this horse's (the dam's) registered name?

I don't know the registered name...they call her "Jazzy". I looked on pasoregistry.com and don't really see her listed under El Mejor DLM's offspring... I don't think she is any of the mares listed that are under 11 years old... perhaps she is not on registry...

I think "Jazzy's" registered name is "Mejana del Pistolero". She totally reminds me of Mila, too.

Yeah, her face looks a lot like Mila. Mila has a longer mane, though. I've been trying to keep both hers and Fiera's braided, because it's been really windy, and they both get so tangled.
