Ok - isthat supposed to indicate boy or girl???

Oh yeah, Marci is DEFINITELY getting her udder - but won't let me touch her behind her belly........however, she did stay lying down in the pasture this morning while I gave her some loving!

Here's to hoping it's a filly! 8-) I can hardly wait for this foal. You'd think it was my own. ;-)

Well - have you heard of an udder looking fuller then shrinking? I SWEAR it shrank between this afternoon and this evening!

Yes, it will shrink...mostly if she is out and moving around...Patilla was always bigger in the morning after she had been in the stall overnight.,..Good luck....

Yes, the udder will go up and down...and do keep working with getting her used to patting her while laying down...mess around a lot with her that way. You may have to pull the foal...and by pulling I don't mean with chains or ropes...I mean just a gentle downward traction on the front legs...to free the head.
Good luck...can't wait to see pics!!

Been there, done that - not with foals, but with calves (actually used chains on calves sometimes) and lambs.......actualy I was usually the one 'picked' to pull lambs when we had the sheep, since my hands were smaller!

Got up early to stop and check the girls before work - the one thing I ~don't~ like right now is my Mom's 2nd dog - I don't totally trust her around a foaling.......ned to get that extra fence up!

Well, udder is back up a little, checked on the girls about 6am.....no obvious changes in the rear end.....

I am going to fence off a little extra space in front of the stalls, and start locking Marci in there. I can't lock her in the stall, she will fret, worry, carry on too much, as will Lucy. They need to see each other.......so, they can pasture next to each other and hang out. This way the dogs can't get near her.....

sigh.......I wanna see a BABY!!!!!!! :duh

Sandy????????? did you ever find the papers? :D :D :D

Marci was bred about 2 months after Katie - and Katie's foal is just over 2 months old now.......I had May 9 down as @343 days.......

It's on the stallion breeding report filed with PFHA. I am swamped right this second, but will look it up as soon as I get a few minutes. Maybe she's one of those 'took' 3 days after mares.... ;-)

I figured Katie was going to go for a full 12 months! The minute I went to take a nap, she laid down in broad daylight at 9:30 in the morning and had Emelina.... !

LOL!!!! Yeah - I bet Marci will pop while I am at work - after staying up half the night with her! My boss already knows he may get an early morning call that I'm not coming in, or coming in late!

I have to look closely when I stop by and drive past - all 3 girls like to take naps in the sun! I think they party all night!

Stella had her first foal this year, born at 1:25 pm in the afternoon while she had company at the farm! That mare was just waiting so she could show her filly off! Was well worth the wait too!

I can't WAIT until Marci foals!

I would love to put all of mine together, but the older mare immediately stole Emelina the _second_ she went by her the first time - and I was only swapping pastures temporarily. Since Katie was a maiden mare, I didn't want her to lose her baby to a momma-wannabe or have an overprotective first time mom kick her accidently in the act of trying to protect her. So they stay separated by a fence from the older mare and nearly 2 year old gelding.

Well - in the pouring rain, thunder and yes, lightning, I set up some temporary fence and now Marci is by herself, next to the other 2 girls. She isn't the happiest right now, but she will live! :D

NOPE!

Was down there a little after 5am - not a thing.......let her back out with the other girls, will bring her back in this evening after I get home from work.

Have you thought about her possibly foaling during the day? That is what Lady did to me with Spirit. I slept in the barn for a month and then she waited until I had gone to work and Nanny left for vacation. It couldn't have been 15 minutes after Nanny left when she had Spirit!

You going to be gone all day?? Mel's right. Marci might not be alone when you get back

No, don't think she is quite ready.....still no real softening, and udder is small, front hasn't filled out yet.....I just don't get that 'feeling' she is about to pop.....

Also, my Mom is home all day, and keeps an eye on the girls.......they usually stay within sight of her while she is working in the gardens and shade houses.

Tell your mom to act like she is leaving. A foal might magically appear.

I just did the math on Lady's prenancy - she carried Spirit for 363 days.

Have you got this yet? I hate to tell you..but this mare waxed for TWO WEEKS..and carried for 364 days..... ! In this photo...her udder is not yet at "strut" position... I think I took this photo three days before foaling...

Terry - no sign of any type of waxing or dripping.......

You know how when you've been around animals (like forever).....and you get that 'feeling' that something is going to happen?????.....well, haven't gotten that yet! However when I do - I'll be spending nights at the barn!
